The reason's extremely obvious dude. I'll provide an example too.
Most fans of teams are a fan of the team that is located in their city, or very near it. When you refer to your city or your country, how do you do it? "the United States this, the city of whatever that", or, "'we' don't like that stuff here"?
The team's part of the city, you're part of the city, therefore it's "we". Or better yet, if you buy a ticket, buy a jersey or any kind of merchandise, you're helping pay put the team on the floor. It's your team. Again, "we".
I don't think bandwagoners deserve the right to use the term though.
