I really can't think of a good way to explain it, that's just the way it is.
The film comparison doesn't work because if you are about to watch Raiders, there is nobody who is going into the film supporting either side. It's not like one person watching has been an avid supporter of Indiana Jones for the past 20 years and is standing in the pub next to another guy who is an equally avid supporter of the Nazis. Any allegiances are formed during the film and not beforehand, meaning there is less emotion involved and opinions are less partisan.
It's not that I couldn't see the forest for the trees.
I simply chose to see the trees for what they were
and not for what they were unknowingly a part of.
