Snooker/pool thread.

Any snooker or pool fans on here?

I played snooker a lot in the first half of last year, and it seemed that all 3 snooker halls to me were completely full most of the time, but you don't hear of it as much as a lot of other sports in England.

Anybody else play?

Anybody watch it? I think the Masters at the Ally Pally starts in a couple of weeks which is usually on the BBC, but it's featured all year round on Eurosport too.

Major changes in the game lately that could be worth discussing if anybody else is into it?

Re: Snooker/pool thread.

This is a great idea

I started the darts thread and was considering starting this one

I love Snooker, I used to play as a youth and its a sport I always follow, Ronnie will always be the greatest in my eyes but he's so flawed

It was your darts thread that inspired it my man. I figured if the lads on here would talk about darts, they would hopefully talk about snooker too.

Did you stop playing as you got older? I played pool a lot when I was in school during the holidays, it was 7 a table from 10-5 and we used to pile in with about 4 of us, playing winners stays on. Some great memories. We were 14ish, in a pub for a few hours a day drinking pitchers of coke thinking we were men. Great days.

I've always played it since, but not very frequent except for the first half of last year. Our local club offers 1-7 or 7-close deals for 20, but with that you can play the next 7 mornings and afternoons for free. It was great. I worked my own hours so used to sneak and play a couple of hours every couple of days with some of the lads, play an early one Saturday morning after watching me godson play football, before leaving for the supporters club and then onto Goodison to watch Everton if we were at home.

I don't really know why we stopped. Definitely something picked up in the new year. Playing Thursday afternoon for the first time since about August.

Ronnie was just so naturally talented wasn't he mate? He was my generations Jimmy White. He had, and still has, his issues and flaws but I think he will easily stand as the most naturally gifted player ever. I would go for Stephen Hendry as my all-time #1 though.

I didn't really give up, I just couldn't afford it really. My Dad used to pay 15 a week for a trainer to train me up and play local tournaments which I didn't do badly in but family had to cut back and they saw that as a luxury. I still do play Pool down pubs and do quite well and was considering recently joining a local snooker/pool team just so I never lose the skills I might of learnt.

Yeah I hope Ronnie makes it back he is probably the most gifted play to ever grace the baize but of course Hendry is the GOAT when it comes to Snooker but then there's Davis who's also been amazing and still playing!

Ahh you played the circuits? Decent. I thought about entering a few tournaments last year but didn't. May do this year.

Yeah it's definitely a good game to play with some mates. Have a few beers, watch endless sky sports news and play pool. Class.

In our local snooker hall, they have crazy hours/costs. It's 20 for 6/7 hours and then free each day for the rest of the week, about 4 an hour, and then they have things like 1 an hour from 1am to 4am. Who's out playing pool at 2 in the morning? Haha

Re: Snooker/pool thread.

Going to play snooker in a couple of hours against a friend who beat me the last time we played. We're billing this one as GREATNESS vs. REDEMPTION, and we all know how *that* ended...

P.S. My speciality shot is cutting into the middle pockets from an angle. One I can never manage is trying to cut backwards into a bottom pocket from a position closer to the cushion than the target ball is, if ya get me bruv.

Re: Snooker/pool thread.

Ronnie O'Sullivan is the GOAT. I hope he beats Hawkins in the final.

I accept Hayley Williams rep.
