Who's the worst Commissioner in the big 4 sports (NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB)?

I know, it's American sports, but hey, that's who were dumping on...

Someone asked me today "Which commissioner is the best of the current 4 major sports?" and I was thinking about it, and was like "Wow, damn, they're all pretty terrible eh?"

Let's review:

Bud Selig, MLB: Been the commissioner (basically) since 1992, officially since 1998. Famously declared an All Star game a tie with no winner, and has presided over the most taint era of any sport as far as performance enhancing drugs go, doing little about it until recently, and even then people are still failing drug tests with semi lenient penalties. Oh and he's fucked the Houston Astros (specifically) organization in the ass with a big rubber dick on numerous occasions.

Gary Bettman, NHL - While the NHL has grown tremendously under his tenure, his decisions to take teams out of Canada and put them in the southern USA has pissed off a lot of people. Has been involved with three labor issues resulting in shortened seasons, more than any other Commish. Probably the most booed Commish as well.

David Stern, NBA: Like Bettman, the sport has no question grown tremendously under him. Also, no question, has presided over the most corrupt officials of the four major sports. While Bud specializes in fucking the city of Houston over with seemingly petty stuff, "Big Dave" essentially fucked the Sacramento Kings out of an NBA title. Oh the 1985 Draft fix was on his watch too. And the Chris Paul trade veto, since the league owns the Hornets. Fun fun.

Roger Goodell, NFL: Has endured one player lockout, and one referee lockout, which as of this date, caused some waves in seeding and teams making and not making the playoffs with a total disaster highlighted by the Seattle/Green Bay game. Oversaw Bountygate, which led to some of his rulings being overturned. Has considered eliminating kickoffs from the NFL (not a joke) and adding more playoff teams - to help those sub .500 teams get into post season. Imagine the 2012 San Diego Chargers as a playoff team? Yikes.

So, which one of these primates is your pick for the worst Commish? Does anyone even like any of these guys at all?

The claims were that they had $10k bounties on the heads of certain players and paid to injure other players with terms like "cart offs" being used as evidence of a system that didn't exist. There was no evidence of this. Later, and as Tagliabue found in the evidence, there was only a "performance pool" for making legal big hits and big defensive plays. That is not a bounty make. Sorry.

Ok, let's assume there isn't evidence, even though there does seem to be. I don't even think twice about a conspiracy. It just screams overreach of power and incompetence, like most of his decisions have been. Unfortunately, this one had some serious bite to it with the suspension of Payton. Why hasn't he been re-instated?

There is no evidence of a pay-to-injure program which is the reasoning that Goodell took such extreme actions in the first place and which Goodell still claims existed without any evidence.

Because the coaches don't have a union to fight for them like Vilma and the players had with the NFLPA.

Outdoor life Network >>>> ESPN (According to Gary)

In 05/06 you could watch Mantracker and then have hockey following it. Genius isn't it?

It's almost 100% imperative that they get back on ESPN to reign in the NBA again. I mean last years finals had a lower rating than a rerun of family matters airing at the same time.

I have no desire to ever follow hockey, honestly. Just not a big part of the culture here. Between college football, college basketball (especially in March), MLB, NBA & NFL, I have enough sports to watch as it is. I didn't even know there was an NHL lockout. Sportscenter literally runs maybe one hockey highlight a week. Last time anyone around here ever mentioned hockey was when Wayne Gretsky was still in that old cartoon with Bo Jackson & Michael Jordan.

It's like Europeans talking about soccer. We just don't care around here. In Indiana, growing up, it was a lot of basketball (IU), college football (Notre Dame) & baseball (Chicago Cubs).

On Comcast Sports Net Bay Area they have pretty good Shark's coverage. I believe the only time they don't air the games is if the GIANTS are playing. then they just move it the CSN+.

Odd thing is during I can't watch Golden State Warriors games on that station. Living in the Kings primary market might have something to do with it.

Michigan is ranked #2 in the country in Basketball and nobody gives two fucks around this area. That might be because the Pistons suck balls now.

Lots of college football, tigers baseball, but more Red Wings hockey. I feel you have to come from Michigan, Wisconsin, Maine, or New England to really understand why people like hockey and like it yourself honestly. That's the U.S of course, Canada is a given.

I think Stern is the best sports commissioner, especially if he sent his 2nd in command to destroy the competition in the NHL, when the NHL was ready to surpass basketball in the late 90's.

Michigan vs Michigan State sells out the Big House in hockey, the old outdoor hockey record was like 70 k, they broke it by 30 k, yeah, hockey doesn't matter in America.

As a Michigander I can attest that there are a lot of hockey fans but the Lions are the #1 show in town. Tigers and Red Wings flip once in a while but I'd say when the Tigers are doing hot they are above the Wings, but the Wings still have a huge following. Pistons lol. Maybe if they actually played in Detroit instead of Auburn Hills they'd have more diehards.

bettman living in ill near or in chicago since i 5 hockey was the 2nd sport here for yr til the short season the yr the devils won their first i believe, along with owners like bill wirtz killed hockey in chicago for almost 20 yrs, moving teams outside of the stars and avs all the teams that moved have one badly, you can say the whalers moving to nc and winning a cup, but they didnt add any fans after winning and were like 3rd worst attendance. then all the other stoppages. never expanding the fan base, i mean hockey is still scene as a whites only sport, but they never talk of black players, hispanic players etc. hell iginla whose canadian is black won an mvp, does anyone know? nope! at this pt the yotes, canes, and jackets have to move.... i dont even know if youre picking a city in ohio for a pro team you pic columbus instead of cleveland
