With the Oakland A's finishing in first and the movie, Moneyball about him. The question is, is Billy Beane the smartest GM in all of sports? in Baseball?

probably not, no.

I'd go with Pat Riley as I don't see any other GM in sports getting two of the top 3 players in the world at their respective sport(at that time) to sign with their team in the same offseason.

This really is impossible to judge though as no one watches all sports and can compare them all.

To be the best GM you have to win titles with the roster you built. While Beane has done impressive things with a limited budget, his team hasn't won the WS yet, so no.

I am biased to my favorite football team, but I sure as hell wouldn't trade Jerry Reese for anyone.
