I'm just wondering. There's plenty of people around here who don't follow their hometown team, when you mentioned Peterborough I thought I'd ask you too.

So P.O.B is irrelevant, but people who don't make a routine journey aren't proper supporters?

I can see why many people will think that but the aussie lads on here and also the american, canadian and irish won't get to many if any games and i consider them true supporters.

You have either completely missed the point or you haven't read all posts to the best of your ability. To truely support or love a club you need to have a connection or legitimate reason to do so. Not because you like the kit or a certain player. It has to be part of your upbrigning, culture or lifestyle. To true fans, their club is a religion. If I claimed to be a Muslim but did not practice Islam or follow the quran would that make me a proper Muslim? No. Place or birth means jack. If I grew a tomato plant in a potato field those tomatoes wouldn't be potatoes. Please go back and read my previous posts again and try to understand matters fully.

Much respect

Oh and who can forget bottles/cups of piss/excrement being launched at us in numerous games at Anfield.
That Alan Smith story is a complete load of shite and has been proven so many times. And even though I did hear the story about the cup of shit during the FA Cup game (don't believe it) that's the only time in my entire match going life I've ever heard of it. I wasn't around in 70's/80's but pulling up one group of fans is ridiculous as it was rife back then. And as you say, Munich/Hillsborough shouts go hand in hand, both sang by utter gobshites.

But apart from that I say ditto.

Well im not a native of manchester but my dad is, rest of the family is irish, i got into football just to have something in common with the old man. Im so jealous, the dude was born in 57 and got to see the 68 European cup win over Eusebio's Benfica and got to see the holy trinity in action.

I do go to Blues games now and again, the hospitalty is great, i got to have a stand all to myself

This has to be one of the most asinine statements I've read on here. So you can only support a team if it has been a part of your upbringing? What about people whose families don't like football? Not true fans? Yet where you come from, which is usually important to fans like you, doesn't matter? Very convenient.

I'd rather listen to some of the Aussies on here who have never even been to see their team than some prat trying to tell us if we can or cannot love our clubs.

Whether you like it or not there is a difference between match going and non-match going fans. Both can be full on gobshites but there is a difference.

For sure. But what is not different is the feeling that a true supporter who goes to games has and the feeling that a true supporter that doesn't go to games has.

I'm sure I've been to Stamford Bridge more than most of the other Chelsea fans on here, but I would never have the nerve to tell them I'm more of a Chelsea fan than they are, because I'm sure they have the exact same feeling for Chelsea that I do. And that is what defines you as a "true" supporter. The feeling you have for your club.

Couple of points. My father was born in Manchester, my mother in Turin. I have been to many United games since 1994 and many Juventus games since 1997 when visiting family over there (eventually forming a mancrush on Nedved <3). Sky Blue does go to more games than me and Mr Snrub goes to less. Are they better than me? No. Are they worse? Hell no.

Incidentally, I also don’t get why you can’t like more than one team (like not love) because yes I love Man Utd and Juventus but I love football more.

My main problem with Sky blue and even Niges comments are that they are so exclusionary. It’s a case of ‘I do this and this and this and you don’t so you’re not a proper fan!!!’ and I find that pathetic. If you are a fan of a football club then you just are. There is no rule that puts you ahead of any other and in the grand scheme of things you are no one to say otherwise. They are rules you have created yourself. We are all fans, some choose to be more involved than others and that’s great but at the end of the day nothing separates our love of the club whether you want to try and justify everything you do for your club or not.

The only people I would class as different is people who change club because they are successful. They're fans of winning, not there clubs.
