GEELONG appears resigned to being without Daniel Menzel for the remainder of the season after the emerging star went down with another knee injury in his return to football today.
Playing in Geelong's VFL side, Menzel was taken off the field on a stretcher cart holding his left leg - the opposite knee to the one he injured in the qualifying final against Hawthorn in early September.

While the dynamic forward is yet to undergo scans to confirm the damage, the Cats do not appear optimistic after doctors assessed his injury in the changerooms.
Geelong's machine falling down
Less than an hour after being carried from the field, the club had tweeted: "Looks like confirmation that Daniel Menzel has torn ACL in knee. Incredibly sad news but he will bounce back."
The 20-year-old, who recently re-signed with the Cats, had been running freely during Geelong's VFL match against North Ballarat at Simonds Stadium.
But early in the third quarter, Menzel fell to the ground after giving off a handball and changing direction on the Cats' half-forward flank.
Play was held up for five minutes as medicos tended to his injury before he was taken directly up the race on a cart.
And in another day of VFL drama - following the procession of facial injuries when Geelong hosted Casey last month - another senior Cat was taken from the field on cart in the final quarter.
Allen Christensen sent a scare around the stadium when play was held up after he was his hit hard and appeared to lose consciousness.
Medical staff put a neck brace on him before he was taken up the race, but early word from the rooms is that it's an impact collision and nothing stuctural.
Christensen has regained consciousness and is understood to have been concussed, but is otherwise fine.
In selection news, Geelong has withdrawn Corey Enright, Joel Corey and youngster Steve Motlop for today's clash against Greater Western Sydney.
