Default THE Offical (NFL) Football thread 2010-2011

Who Dat? Nation in Dallas in February?

John Clayton recently ranked the QBs, using three catergories. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/previe...ohn&id=5489176

- Elite (which includes quarterbacks who can carry teams into the playoffs. An elite quarterback is one who can complete better than 60 percent of his passes, has the potential to throw for 4,000 yards and has fourth-quarter comeback ability.)

- Chad Pennington Division (Pennington, a former starter who's now a backup with the Dolphins, doesn't have the strongest arm but he once was good enough to take a team to the playoffs with a good surrounding cast or a favorable schedule.)

- Hit or Miss (It is filled with young QBs -- hello, Mark Sanchez and Kevin Kolb -- who easily could climb my ladder or veterans who have reached their ceiling (Jake Delhomme) and have no chance of moving up.)

I don't particularly care for these rankings. He uses elite pretty liberally, naming fourteen QBs to that category. That's just too many. I prefer to use elite to describe the best of the best.

If I were to rank the 32 starting QBs ... I'd go with Elite, good, mediocre, bad, and the unknowns.

Elite: Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady,

Good:Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, Ben Roethlisberger, Phillip Rivers, Joe Flacco, Tony Romo, Matt Schaub, Donovan McNabb, Eli Manning, Matt Ryan

Mediocre: Vince Young, Carson Palmer, Jay Cutler, Matt Hasselback, Matt Cassell, Jason Campbell, David Garrard, Kyle Orton

Bad: Jake Delhomme, Byron Leftwich, Matt Leinart

Unknown:Alex Smith, Mark Sanchez, Kevin Kolb, Chad Henne, Matt Stafford, Josh Freeman, Sam Bradford, Trent Edwards, Matt Moore

Predictions on where I think those unknowns will end up after the season ...

Alex Smith - Mediocre
Mark Sanchez - Bad
Kevin Kolb - Good
Chad Henne - Bad
Matt Stafford - Mediocre
Josh Freeman - Mediocre
Sam Bradford - Bad
Trent Edwards - Bad
Matt Moore - Mediocre/Bad (I don't think he's QB for the entire season with Clausen there)

Anyone want to provide their ranking? Anyone want to shit all over mine?

In any case, use this thread to discuss the NFL regular season, and post-season.

Heard Peter King picked the Steelers to win it all. I like the sound of that.

Has Peter King ever been right about his picks? He's notorious for being wrong. He's pretty much the kiss of death.

Unknown should be unproven. They haven't been tested enough. Ben should be an elite QB. Jay Cutler should be bad.

Are the Jets really not going to redo Revis's contract? Vincent Jackson looks to sit for the season as well. Well he won't be a Charger.

I don't see why everybody keeps shitting on Moore. Does he put up big numbers? No. But he doesn't have to, and he's not going to. He doesn't turn the football over though, which is what he needs to do. Total production-wise (Yards/TDs) he'll be towards the bottom, but he'll probably be towards the top in TD/INT ratio, which is all that he needs to do. Also, I don't see how he's worse than guys like Trent Edwards, Derek Anderson, Matt Leinart, Byron Leftwich, who are all piss-poor players who haven't been able to sustain a job in the NFL.

By the way, Peter King is horrible.

I can't see how anyone can really have an opinion of Moore, good or bad, considering he hasn't played enough.

Moore is in a rough situation. Panthers aren't going to the playoffs unless something shocking happens. I don't see them passing by N.O nor Atlanta for the division. And the wild card will be very difficult to come by, as well.

With a losing season, and hotshot promising rookie QB sitting behind you ... I don't think he'll be the starter for the duration of the season. And obviously, if you're a QB, and not playing ... it's a bad season. When he will be playing? Mediocre things. As you say, he's a manager of the game. He's not going to win you games. At least, we don't have reason to believe that. Though, stranger things have happened in teh past.

I agree with you Damage about the QB situations, I really do believe Kolb will develop nicely with us. I mean look at all the weapons we have in Jackson, Maclin, Celek, McCoy, hell even guys like Avant and Weaver. Kolb has all the tools to be very good.

Vince Young would be far worse than mediocre if it wasn't for everyone trying to stop CJ and Rodgers is bound to put elite type numbers this year. Colts are going to win it this year as long as the defence can stay healthy and we don't have a secondary full of rookies again.

Derek Anderson had a decent season at QB, and look where he is. Moore shouldn't be hailed or shitted on till we see how he does.

As for Stafford, he's looking a lot better this year. I think he could make the jump to middle of the pack this year, considering all of the weapons he's got.
