Who Dat? Nation in Dallas in February?
John Clayton recently ranked the QBs, using three catergories.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/previe...ohn&id=5489176
- Elite (which includes quarterbacks who can carry teams into the playoffs. An elite quarterback is one who can complete better than 60 percent of his passes, has the potential to throw for 4,000 yards and has fourth-quarter comeback ability.)
- Chad Pennington Division (Pennington, a former starter who's now a backup with the Dolphins, doesn't have the strongest arm but he once was good enough to take a team to the playoffs with a good surrounding cast or a favorable schedule.)
- Hit or Miss (It is filled with young QBs -- hello, Mark Sanchez and Kevin Kolb -- who easily could climb my ladder or veterans who have reached their ceiling (Jake Delhomme) and have no chance of moving up.)
I don't particularly care for these rankings. He uses elite pretty liberally, naming fourteen QBs to that category. That's just too many. I prefer to use elite to describe the best of the best.
If I were to rank the 32 starting QBs ... I'd go with Elite, good, mediocre, bad, and the unknowns.
Elite: Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady,
Good:Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, Ben Roethlisberger, Phillip Rivers, Joe Flacco, Tony Romo, Matt Schaub, Donovan McNabb, Eli Manning, Matt Ryan
Mediocre: Vince Young, Carson Palmer, Jay Cutler, Matt Hasselback, Matt Cassell, Jason Campbell, David Garrard, Kyle Orton
Bad: Jake Delhomme, Byron Leftwich, Matt Leinart
Unknown:Alex Smith, Mark Sanchez, Kevin Kolb, Chad Henne, Matt Stafford, Josh Freeman, Sam Bradford, Trent Edwards, Matt Moore
Predictions on where I think those unknowns will end up after the season ...
Alex Smith - Mediocre
Mark Sanchez - Bad
Kevin Kolb - Good
Chad Henne - Bad
Matt Stafford - Mediocre
Josh Freeman - Mediocre
Sam Bradford - Bad
Trent Edwards - Bad
Matt Moore - Mediocre/Bad (I don't think he's QB for the entire season with Clausen there)
Anyone want to provide their ranking? Anyone want to shit all over mine?
In any case, use this thread to discuss the NFL regular season, and post-season.
