Yeah, I think with Malkin being on the PK it could hurt his +/-. With Spezza as a defensive liability I don't have to worry about that. Not to mention this guy has about 8 penguins now, so when the penguins dont play, he doesn't get points.

Would have made that trade in a heart beat so good on you haha. Malkin won't get the playing time in the 2nd half this year with Crosby back (unless he gets injured again of course), nor will be be the go to guy to lead the PP. And of course, Brodeur is Brodeur.

For 40 minutes they looked great, but that's the problem they need to play a full 60. Detroit wins 4-3 because the Leafs fell asleep for the 2nd. Oh and when are they going to realize that Poni DOES NOT WIN HOCKEY GAMES, the guy had 2 glorious chances to bury the puck and he fucked up as usual

Ahahahaha, I feel your pain bro. Gonna be a long season at this rate. I have some confidence that they can put it together to form some sort of decent team but my confidence is decreasing daily, I can tell you that much.

First time I read through your 1 to 8s I'm like uhhh that's impossible, then I read the message up top. Pretty interesting going with the exact same cup final w/ the other team winning this time. Would suggest that you don't think much has changed.

Re: Official NHL 2008 Season Discussion Thread
I think with the Wild losing Rolston and Demitra they're done. Teams will just shut down Gaborik and they have nothing else left on offence. This team can't score goals.

Re: Official NHL 2008 Season Discussion Thread
Yeah the Wild don't have anything going for them, I don't even think they have many, if any prospects working their way through the system.
Montreal and Detroit seems to be the genereal consensus which I am going to have to agree with. As for the rest of the standings, I'm pretty much thinking along the same lines as Merce.

Re: Official NHL 2008 Season Discussion Thread
Even with Minnesota's issues I struggle to find a team better off to make it as the 8th seed. Minnesota has a strong defense and should get great goaltending from Backstrom based on the last 2 seasons. They also picked up Brunette, Nolan and Miettinen who can contribute some goals. I think 7-10 and possibly 12 will be pretty tight in the west, just like it was last year in the east, so who really knows.

Re: Official NHL 2008 Season Discussion Thread
Just a bit of news
Quote:
tsn.ca
The Montreal Canadiens placed goaltender Marc Denis and defenceman Alex Henry on waivers on Sunday. If unclaimed, both players will be sent to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.
Denis, 31, signed a one-year, two-way contract with the club in July. The Montreal native is a veteran of 10 seasons in the NHL with 348 games of experience as a member of the Colorado Avalanche, the Columbus Blue Jackets and Tampa Bay Lightning.
He posted a career record of 112-179-28-3 with a 3.02 GAA and a .902 save percentage, along with 16 shutouts. In 2007-08, Denis played in 10 games with the Lightning, before completing the season with the AHL's Norfolk Admirals.
Henry, 28, suited up for the Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League last season. He recorded 16 points with 142 penalty minutes. He spent the past two seasons in the Nashville Predators' organization and played 175 NHL games with Edmonton, Washington and Minnesota.

Quote:
The Vancouver Canucks have locked up one of their top prospects, as CKNW in Vancouver reports that the club has signed centre Cody Hodgson to an entry-level contract.
Hodgson, 18, was the Canucks' first pick (10th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
The Brampton Battalion forward had 40 goals and 45 assists in 68 games in the Ontario Hockey League last season. He also recorded five goals in five playoff games last spring.
The 6'0", 185-pound centre was named captain of Canada's gold medal-winning squad at the 2008 Under-18 IIHF World Championship. He scored 12 points and led all skaters in assists with 10). The Haliburton, Ontario native also won a gold medal with Team Ontario at the 2007 Canada Winter Games.
