Re: Official NBA Offseason thread
It pains me to be a Memphis Grizzlies fan, as always. Trading for Mayo ensured us another Top 10, and probably a Top 5, draft pick. All this trade did for Memphis was send away our only legitimate inside presence with Love, and the team's best all around player in Mike Miller. Miller is thee single most underrated player in the NBA, in my opinion. He's a pure shooter, excellent from the perimeter and can drive to the lane well too. He led the team in rebounds this past year, and also can grab steals and assists. He's a viable 2-3 swingman, while all we bring in is another 1-2 guard.
Mayo will (probably) be a future all-star, if he lives up to his upside. However, there are still a lot of question marks in my opinion on him. When he played tougher teams/guards, he couldn't do anything. UCLA shut him down with ease.
Even if Mayo does blossom to be an all-star, Memphis is now even weaker in the post. Darko Milicic and Hakim Warrick can't cut it down low. Milicic can't hack it, period, and Warrick is too undersized to stay with the big boys, although he does have scoring ability. Memphis better count on Marc Gasol to come in and be the tough defender he's hyped out to be, or it's going to be another long season for the Grizz.

REALLY? Every Memphis fan is raving about how they got Darrell Arthur and OJ Mayo, while dumping a couple bad contracts (And taking some back). Minnesota fans are PISSED right now.

Re: Official NBA Offseason thread
I think Memphis got the better deal between the two... but not by much. I think Mayo is going to be a big time player and all-star while Love will just be average at best.

Re: Official NBA Offseason thread
I really don't see why the T-Wolves fans should be pissed though. Yes, they lost Mayo, but they got a future double-double PF to go along with Jefferson in Love, and Miller is a consistent, all-around player, who gives Minnesota the perimeter shooter they badly needed. And if Randy Foye can (finally) stay healthy, they have another solid guard to go with them. The contracts even out in the end. They finally get rid of Jaric's contract that still has 3 years left, but get Cardinal's contract that has 2 years and Collins' contract (I think that has 1 year left).
Minnesota's fans are upset for the sheer fact that they believe Mayo to be the real deal, right now. They believe in the theory that Mayo is a steal and Love won't match up as a solid NBA player. Simply put, Love will be, and Minnesota's inside game is going to be freaky good with Jefferson and Love. They'll be undersized at times, but dominant. Miller will be solid, and if Foye stays healthy and Brewer develops, Minnesota could be back in the playoffs in 2 years time.
I'm glad we got Darrell Arthur in the trade with Houston, especially because it got rid of Donte Green too. Green had no place on the team because he'd just be riding the bench for Rudy Gay. Arthur will be a solid 4 in a few years, that I do believe. However, I'm still not solid on Mayo. He's going to be a great talent down the line, and he's going to help produce, or at least I hope. However, Mayo struggled when it mattered most: against the tougher teams. When USC played Kansas, Memphis, at Stanford, twice against UCLA, and then in the Tourney against Kansas State - key games - Mayo struggled big time. Hence, I'm not sure on him.

That should improve with age, experience and actual talent around the guy.

Hey, I thought that Isiah was no longer the team president of the Knicks. The fans didn't like the pick of Gallinari. I think it was a really good pick because he is going to be a pretty good player down the road. He has a lot of upside.

Re: Official NBA Offseason thread
I'm so glad that my Bulls got Derrick Rose,i still can't believe we had the 1st pick. Regardless though It makes people in Chicago glad again that we could finally have a legit All-Star since Michael Jordan. Only problem the Bulls have now is we have wayyyy to many guards, sadly i think Hinrich is gonna have to go, which really bums me out, hes always been on of my favorite players, will still be if he gets traded, but whatever happens...happens i guess. The Rose Era has begun in Chicago!

Yea especially considering Beasley is going to be the one who wins it anyway. Its going to be Beasley or Oden.

It's like Kevin McFail wants to lose. I pity Minnesota fans. Love is one of those great college players that will be an average NBA player. Mayo will be the face of the Memphis franchise, and an all-star player. Minnesota threw away the opportunity to have a great young inside threat in Jefferson, and a great young perimeter threat in Mayo.
Love was dominated in the NCAA Tournament by Joey Dorsey. You think he can compete with people at the Pro level? haha. He's unathletic. Slow. And he was incredibly overrated by that moron Jay Billis and ESPN. That's why Minnesota fans are upset.
|
You mean the same OJ Mayo that shot over 50 percent in 6 games last year, and shot 44 percent for the year. Both of those numbers are AWFUL. What makes you think he can score on NBA level defenders. The T'Wolves got the better of the deal. The best player in the trade is Mike Miller, and Love will be a very good role player.

If you think the Wolves got the better deal you know nothing about basketball. And Mike Miller is an aging (average) player on a young team. And He'll be out Minnesota in two years.
|
44% in College. If you think that is good you are a moron. He is playing against better talent, better defenses and his numbers aren't going to improve. If anything they will go down. Look at Durant he shot 47% in college then he shot 43%. Durant is a better player to begin with. Why would you think Mayo is going to improve in the NBA.
Who the fuck cares if he got his numbers when he shoots like shit. Any player can "get his numbers" when they are forcing shots. Look at Iverson. He gets his numbers but yet his teams never win because he is a gunner that can't play D.
LMFAO that you honestly think someone who shot 44% in college is better than a proven NBA player. Mike Miller is EASILY the best player in the trade. EASILY. But if you don't think that then I don't even know why I am arguing with you. You know nothing.
