The Zamora in Spain is the best way to do it, judging it by clean sheets just seems stupid to me.

Our defense has been inconsistant and injury plagued all year, the fact Reina still won the Golden Glove is quite an acheivement.
He's more permanent than the other keepers though, he's played every league game.

KME do you believe that if you sign a couple of full backs and a winger you will be title contenders?

It depends what is meant by Title contenders. Things aren't looking too rosy for either Arsenal or Chelsea at the minute, so Liverpool could come 2nd next season should they make some good signings, I just don't think they'll be too close to United any which way.

Re: Official Rumours/Gossip/Transfers/Pre-Season Discussion Thread 08/09
Not necessarily.
Our best areas, ie centre defense and midfield are very good, but I wouldn't say better than the other top teams, except Arsenal. And then there's the task of getting the right wingers and full backs, and building up enough depth to challenge if we get injuries.
The wings and full back areas are definitely where we need to improve to get near the title, but we still need to have a good enough squad to replace Torres when he gets injured, and at the moment if he got injured, we'd be playing with Crouch, Voronin or Kuyt up front, which isn't good enough.
So yeah, they are the areas that need the improvement, but it is still going to take a while to construct a strong enough squad to be Champions, or to mount a legitimate challenge.

By title contenders I mean battling it out to win the league over the majority of the season.
I'd pretty much agree with you KME, your squad isn't balanced enough or big enough to challenge as of yet in my opinion.

Rafa showed this season, at times, he is capable of trusting players fitness and appeitite for the game. If he keeps the same team together next season, barring injuries/suspensions and so on, I think we will be top 3 at least.

Re: Official Rumours/Gossip/Transfers/Pre-Season Discussion Thread 08/09
We simply do not have a big enough, or strong enough squad to play the same team week in; week out. There is a reason we always have one good half of the season, and one average half. The rotation policy works, it just isn't working with us yet because of a lack of depth.
It's going to take time.

Agger not being there definitely hurt us. I still don't like Skrtel and Carra together, as much as I like them individually. As good as Sami was last season, and as great a servant as he has been he was no Agger.

Re: Official Rumours/Gossip/Transfers/Pre-Season Discussion Thread 08/09
Definitely, Sami had an excellent season on the whole, and still kept his place in the team on the arrival of Skrtel, which I thought was very impressive. But there were alot of times when he didn't keep up with a striker and gave away silly fouls that I thought about how much better Agger would deal with it.
Agger/Skrtel should be a great partnership, it's our future and it will mean that Carra can actually get a game off once in a while, as he still seems to play virtually every game, even in the Carling Cup.
