Re: 2008 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread
This is the year that the Wizards finally beat the Cavs in the playoffs, the third time is the charm.

Hope so with all the grief the Wizards have been giving Barkley and other commentators that are saying the Cavs will win.

Re: 2008 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread
One thing I can't stand about the NBA playoffs is how long it takes. They often times have two days off in-between games which is stupid.

Re: 2008 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread
NHL moves a little quicker. An NHL series has a game played just about every other day, while an NBA series has a game played just about every third day.
My big problem with this is that their playing basketball. They really don't need several days off to recover from a game.

Re: 2008 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread
Ahhhhhh... I see what you mean......
In the NBA, the Major Networks (like ESPN, TNT) don't like 3 or 4 playoffs games going on at the same time. Thats why a series game is every 3rd day or so.
Infact, they probably dont like even 2 games on at once... Im pretty sure they dont.
And this is what works for the leauge so............
Plus, lets face it... The NHL Playoffs are not on any "Major" Networks.

Yep. Except NBA TV Games... Which I would not call "National" TV......
Only a few games are on NBA TV though. NBA TV will only have games in the first round.

Good News for Knick Fans
Quote:
NEW YORK, April 18 (AP) -- Isiah Thomas was fired as coach of the New York Knicks on Friday, ending a year fraught with embarrassing episodes on and off the court.
Thomas, the coach for two seasons, will remain with the organization reporting directly to new president Donnie Walsh, a rapid fall for Thomas who also was team president a little more than two weeks ago.
Walsh took over that role April 2, and his first big decision was to change coaches as he begins the process of turning around a team that never won a playoff game in Thomas' tenure.
"I just believe a new voice, a new coach, is necessary to change the direction of the team,'' Walsh said.
The Knicks finished 23-59, matching the franchise record for losses, in their seventh straight losing season.
This season alone, Thomas feuded with point guard Stephon Marbury and benched center Eddy Curry - the players Thomas acquired in the two biggest of a number of moves that never panned out.
Walsh wants a new coach in place by the draft in June, when the Knicks will finally have their lottery pick again after handing over their last two to Chicago in the Curry trade. Walsh said Sunday he had not yet talked to any candidates for either a coach or general manager job.
Thomas is 187-223 as an NBA coach, leading the Indiana Pacers to the playoffs in three straight years from 2000-03. Larry Bird fired him after becoming team president, a move Walsh - who had hired Thomas as coach - was originally against but eventually went along with.

Also sad news for Seattle SuperSonic Fans
Quote:
NEW YORK, April 18, 2008 – The NBA Board of Governors today endorsed the recommendation of the NBA Relocation Committee and approved the move of the SuperSonics from Seattle to Oklahoma City for the 2008-09 season, subject to a resolution of the pending litigation between the Sonics and the city of Seattle that removes any requirement for the team to play at KeyArena for the next two seasons.
“The support for the NBA demonstrated by the fans, government leaders and business community of Oklahoma City over the last three years has been extraordinary,” said NBA Commissioner David Stern. “The Board of Governors is confident that that level of local support will result in success for the Sonics franchise in Oklahoma."
