I was more impressed when the last Pistons won it...because they are a bunch of unknowns who swept a team that has 5 HOF including the coach.
They have the sickest and deepest lineup in the NBA...and they proved that by having the best record in the regular season. The only reason why the Lakers are picked to win is because of their mediocre playoff perforamce. They are not asked to play beyond their capability because the team is so good that there's always somebody picking up the slack.
So much attention is given to the Big 3 that they finally won it, but for me they are just a combination of good players not being able to win on their own...So I give more credit to the one who put them together... Danny Ainge, the C's Coaching staff for pushing the right buttons especially the defense coach Tom T, and the bench which made the difference in this series...Posey, House, Powe, Brown, Casssell.

Ok, I was just saying there were alot of good stories out of them winning the championship.
I don't think they were really that much of a favorite when the season started TBH, I didn't hear one analyst predict them to win the title or anything like that. Hell all the analysts before the series almost unanmiously picked the Lakers even still.
Before the season started there were people saying they would finish 6th or 7th in the East, so I don't think they were expected to win a title at all actually.
Your just trying to minimize this victory TBH, when it was epic in every sense of the word.
Even if they were expected to win, why would that make it any easier? You still have to out and get it done even if you are the most talented team.

KG was going crazy last night. I mean it was his first NBA championship but still, that was crazy. Congrats to Pierce thought for winning MVP.

i want to congratulate KG, Ray Allen and of course, Paul Pierce on finally winning the big one. they all deserved and i am very happy to see them win. it's awesome to see them humiliate the Lakers too. lucky Boston, they have three amazing sports teams now.

"You're Not Jordan!" "You're not Jordan!"
You simply have to admit--that was hilarious. I hope that was heard by everyone at ESPN and everyone who actually had even an ounce of thought that he was.
And I'm a Kobe Bryant fan!
In any event, another year where a HOFer at the 4 or 5 hoists the trophy while the guard/small forward superstar is denied.
I mentioned that earlier in this thread (which is impossible to find in these long, 10,000 page threads) and I don't think too many people payed attention to it--or even cared. If I am proven wrong, please forgive me.
But Congrats to the Celtics. I was very happy for Garnett and Allen, especially.
You have to say that they are favourites to win it again next year. Of course, along with Detroit, Phoenix and San Antonio. It's pretty much a closed door after that.

Re: 2008 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread
I understand why kobe will get it from the media and the people for not winning without shaq, but why isnt the same being said about pierce, allen, or kg? Pierce never won a title without them, KG never won a title without them, and Allen never won a title without them. Yea, kobe had his fallout with shaq and thats why that gets covered more, but seriously, it's unfair. The Big Three won it because they had each other, Tim Duncan won cause he had tony and manu, SHaq won it cause he had dwayne, it's unfair to analyze kobe that way...

Analysts picking the Lakers? The betting odds have Celtics as a 2.5 favorite. Some people did not pick them as favorites before the season because of chemistry...but they all know that this trio is the strongest combination out there. Pick any team that has 3 certified superstars...the only one that's close to them are the Suns if you still include the AGING Shaq...
Like I said Im not taking away anything from the trio...they deserve it. But this is not your cinderella fairy tale, where nobody expected them to win. This almost felt like the Bulls who won 71 games. This is a very different team from the Celtics a year ago...if the Celtics only added KG and even kept Jefferson in there and still won it...I would be cheering for them. But they are no way an underdog on every series they played and for this team to struggle early in the playoffs against the Hawks is just a mystery.
In short, we all know that the Lakers still has hope after this because they're young and Bynum. If the roles were reversed and the Lakers won it...there will be a HUGE question mark on whether the C's can win at all. Anything short of a title for this team is a dissapointment because the window is a lot shorter.
I didnt see anything out of ordinary with the trio that would blow me away....but the story is Perkins and Brown controlling Pau, Cassell/Rondo in game 1, Powe/Rondo in Game 2, House/Posey in Game 4, and Rondo/House/Posey in Game 6. The support stepped up big time and none for the Lakers...that's the biggest difference in the series.

Most sportswriters picked the Lakers to win in 6 or less. In fact, every analyst on ESPN chose the Lakers to win, with the exception of one who said that Celts would win in 7.

Re: 2008 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread
When the Celetics won KG was on the ground, and Bryant came to congrat him.
And then KG lifted his head and hit Kobe right in the mouth. It was funny, did anybody else see that?
