Yeah, the home team always gets the calls. The Lakers will get the calls that the C's got when they return home. As for the game, gotta give credit for the Lakers on making a comeback and almost winning the game. They have the momentum going into Game 3. But the C's got the win and that's what they needed.

Re: 2008 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread
Here’s what Phil Jackson has to say after the game…
Quote:
“I’m more struck by the fact that Leon Powe gets more foul shots than our whole team does in (Powe’s) 14 minutes of play,” Jackson said, even mispronouncing the Celtic forward’s name to add insult to his 13-10 free throw edge. “That’s ridiculous.
“You can’t play from a deficit like that; that we had in that half, 19-2 in the first half. I’ve never seen a game like that in all these years I’ve coached in the Finals. Unbelievable.”
|
No surprise there…the 1st half was one of the most lopsided calls I’ve seen in years… I would understand if it was KG…but Leon Powe? C’mon! But you gotta give it the guy for hustling, but the reason why he continued to play well in the second half is because you cant touch him otherwise the refs will make a call.
Regardless, if there was any one to blame it’s the Lakers coaching staff. They havent done any adjustments to the game, well I guess one if you consider putting Ariza to the game who just lost the ball everytime he touches it. So far I give the chess match advantage to C’s coaching staff.
Here is what I noticed and some changes that the Lakers should make going into Game 3:
1. The Lakers realized too late that the triangle was not working…they have one the most potent pick and roll combination in the NBA and they’re not taking advantage of it. Kobe, Pau and Odom all have good hands and they always have open looks when they run it.
2. I already said this before…PUT THE FREAKING OVERRATED LUKE WALTON AT THE SF. I say overrated, because this guy was a starter last year and he’s not doing anything at the moment. He looks like he doesn’t know what to do everytime he got the ball.
3. I don’t know why and maybe you notice that the Lakers always finish with a small lineup. Kobe at SF and Vujacic at SG. Then why the cant they start the game with the same lineup? Radman may have done stupid possessions last night but he hustles and the C’s bench have been beating the Lakers bench badly this series. I say put Radman to the bench and make him play PF instead of the overrated Walton and put Vujacic to the starting lineup. This way you have Sasha chasing Allen instead of Kobe, yes you may have Kobe facing Pierce but you also have Pierce guarding Kobe… you have to make Pierce play defense…he maybe strong but he’s not as quick in denying the ball. So the bench gets bigger with Radman without sacrificing the offense. The C’s bench are grinders and they are not that quick especially if you have Cassell at the point. They need rebounders and if they don’t want to try Mbenga or Mihm, they have to put another big guy in there.
4. Put Odom on KG for a change. KG is playing in the perimeter and your putting your best blocker outside the lane. You can double on KG when he gets to the post….which also leads to…
5. Play Rondo as a passer. I don’t understand why the Lakers are ganging up on Rondo and leaving Pierce and Allen open for 3. Let Rondo beat you, make him a scorer and if you put the long arms of Gasol on Perkins or Brown, Rondo would have to pull up for outside shot which he has not made consistently. Lakers must have been used to overplaying the PGs after facing Parker and Deron.

Momentum? There is no momentum.
If anything, the Celtics have the "momentum" because you know, they are up 2-0......

The C's played great for 3 quarters and need to stop playing the score and letting up when they're up big. Leon Powe was phenomenal, I always like seeing him play well. I would love to see the C's take two in LA and end the series but I think I'd like it more if they came back to Boston and won it at home.

Re: 2008 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread
Meh, Celtic fans will turn around and complain about the calls in LA in the upcoming 3 games, just like Lakers fans complained about the ones in Boston, always happens, home team gets better calls, and Phil Jackson shouldn't really be complaining, when the Lakers are at home, they get some bias calling to help them as well, I Think he's just pissed that their down 2-0, which hasn't happened to them this whole playoffs, and he knows the complete pressure is on them to win every one of their home games.

Phil is just playing the NBA coaches' game. He'll complain about the disparity in the calls at Boston so he'll get even more calls in LA. LA will shoot more free throws than Boston the next three games and the difference will probably be about 15-20 for each game. I'm surprised Jackson didn't go further and just call out the refs.

The Celtics have had horrible officiated game in the playoffs too, so it's not something out of the blue. The officiating has sucked all playoffs and played a part in the game but still didn't cost LA the game, they had their opportunity's to win the game but didn't, plain and simple. Get over it and move onto game 3.
