College basketball season is nearly upon us, how are excited are you for the tip off?
Do you think your team can go dancing this year?
I have high hopes for the defending CBI Champions to dethrone SDSU atop the Mountain West, maybe even an at large if we can't. Mussleman has a strong and deep team this year with loads of talent. MW POY favorite Cam Oliver returns for his second season, welcome aboard former MVC scoring champ Marcuss Marshall for a season, DJ Fenner looking to cash in on his senior season, Lindsey Drew bringing the defense and vision only a second generation player can. Jordan Caroline was a MVC freshman of the year and transferred in and looks like he belongs right away, though Elijah Foster might have something to say about his starting C job, as will the Brown transfer Leland King. We have a tiny freshman dynamo off the bench in Devearl Ramsey and some D-1 talent as walk on's that can stroke it.
We open at St Mary's, so should know fairly early if they are for real.
Space Cam is here, all conference defender, one of the best dunkers in the West, and looming to average 2 3's a game this year(.5 per game uptick).
Rough start versus St Mary's, but maybe we'll round in to shape.
We're tall in the back court, but our size in the front court is a glaring weakness. We could throw out a line up of a 6'4 guy with the rest 6'7 and 6'8, but we don't have anyone taller. Caroline and Oliver look good though. Oliver already had the 5th best block season ever in the MW last year, and is on pace for another solid year this year that would put him among the best ever career wise in the conference, even if he leaves after 2 years for the league.
Notre Dame won but that was to be expected, with Colson and Beachem having nice games. Not really sure what to expect of this ND team this year tbh, disappointed they didn't get Thon Maker or Jarrett Allen to replace Zach Auguste, but oh well. They at least got Temple Gibbs, who was an ESPN top 100 player, so interested in seeing how he does this season, along with the rest of the team.
Tom Izzo mocking the nation with that insanely difficult schedule knowing he has Miles Bridges under his belt. Barring an injury to him, hang another banner for the Spartans.
Couple of dark horses for me this year
Minnesota in the Big Ten they have some talent on that team to sneak in to the rankings once this season
Duop Reath is going to become a household name soon...LSU could mess around and make noise in a week SEC
Juwan Evans and Phil Forte are one of the better not talked about backcourts...in all the land. They can compete in the Big 12 and weren't even given a shot this year. I also like KState to compete. Iwundu could become a big time player now that he's been working on the three ball.
As for my CANES? Ezundu and Huell could be BIG PROBLEMS for the ACC...stay tuned
Kentucky played a fantastic game against Michigan State tonight. This team is an absolute JOY to watch. Showtime style of play with running up and down the court and some pretty damn good defense.
Recorded this as I spent all of last night at the office. :lol
Kentucky looks strong. Love the way you put that--"Showtime style of play with running up and down the court and some pretty damn good defense." Quite so. Coach John Calipari knows how to deploy his young squad defensively, maximizing their basketball acumen. Holding Michigan State to 32 percent shooting and 19 percent from beyond the arc is a fabulous accomplishment.
The only considerable weakness appears to be shooting from distance. Kentucky is struggling with this, and several members of the squad are having a problem with rebounding. The significantly smaller Michigan State team out-rebounded the Wildcats.
So while it was a fantastic win, it also provided Coach Cal with grist for the mill of constructive criticism. This looks like a tremendously promising Kentucky team but they have already displayed some warts, too, so it will be interesting to see where they go from here. Like you say, though, the "Showtime style" is awesome to watch. :aryep
And now I'm watching CAL take on the UC Irvine Anteaters in Berkeley tonight! :cheer :cheer :cheer :aryha :lol
ND with a solid win over Colorado. Made that game way more interesting than it needed to be in the 2nd half, but they did a great job making almost all their free throws to ice the game away. Beachem, Colson, Vasturia, and Farrell all had nice games, but Vasturia gave Colorado some assistance with a 5-second violation and then leaving a man open for a 3. Gotta work on that.
Lamar is actually on the rise especially when Southland play picks up. Tic Price landed some good JuCos in Weisbrod and Noel. Weisbrod is an undersized big man. Those are always fun to watch. They're off to their best start in eight years.
Look out for Pacific tonight. Mighty Mouse Damon Stoudemire patrolling the sidelines..
Never even heard of the Mastodons until tonight. Feel like I should know who they are being from Indiana and everything. I definitely know who they are now lol, as most others do now too.
We just lost to Sam Cassell Jr, now we gotta look out for Damon Jr?
Also, our starting center Elijah Foster suspended indefinitely after a domestic violence accusation. We were 6.5 deep before this, maybe we just won't use the bench.
I wasn't going to disagree with you, but with Iowa State having their 37 game home winning streak (against non-conference opps) broken, I would say that the Bearcats begged to differ. :mj
Honestly, that was the best game I have seen them play as a TEAM this year. :woo
