Default Formula 1 2014

Not sure I like the sound of the new engines, V6 power for ya! It's almost completely silent on tv!

Anyway is it Hamilton with a very strong looking Mercedes, Rosberg will be battling him for sure, Vettel will be there or there abouts? Can Daniel Ricciardo give him a run for his money?

But surely Kimi and Alonso will push to the max to be up with the rest.

With all the changes and such, I'm still fairly interested on how this season will pan out.

Default Re: Formula 1 2014

My hype has been building all week. Actually quite tough to call over the course of the season, though Mercedes do look head and shoulders above the rest right now. I'm hoping Rosberg gives Hamilton a good challenge in the early races while the other teams play catch up.

I can easily see Ricciardo being much more of a number 2 driver than Webber was, so I can't see Red Bull being very interesting this year. Ferrari could get pretty tasty if Alonso isn't winning though, being outperformed by Kimi could produce some questionable behavior/comments. Ferrari have (IMO) the two best drivers on the grid so if they keep their shit together I'd make them my favourites for the constructor's as I can't see Mercedes keeping their advantage for too long.

As for the driver's, it's genuinely hard to call. I see Alonso finishing the season ahead of Kimi and Hamilton finishing ahead of Rosberg so for meit's all about how fast Ferrari and Red Bull can get their cars up to the level they need to stop Hamilton.

Only one thing is for sure: I'll spend a large chunk of the season bitching about the BBC's coverage.

I lost much of my interest last season but the new engines have brought me back in. All the Renault drama during testing was too much for me to resist. I figure when I get in tonight I may as well just stay up to watch quali at 3am as part of the grand North American F1 fan first race tradition.

One of the main draws is me to see someone Vettel lose. And I hope Hamilton can use his pre-season pace to good use and make a good lead.

Ferrari will be one's to watch. Possibly for a Hamilton/Alonso type argument for who's this top driver.

Vettel going all Man U.

Magnussen getting 4th in his first quali though, hopefully he outshines Button in the McLaren. Bring on the new breed.

Kvyat was a surprise for me. Vettel was shockingly, hilariously bad – car problems (that obviously didn’t hamper Ricciardo) or something else?

i saw a suggestion that maybe vettel had lost a step when it came to driving a car that wasn't perfect, whereas ricciardo has obviously been driving toro rosso's and hrt's. it was uncanny for vettel to be poor in the wet, but he looked incredibly twitchy and poor.

The twitchiness stood out to me; he seemed to be fighting the car constantly. I’m sure it’s a different RedBull without the EBD he’s accustomed to.

I really enjoyed the qualifying today.

I think it sucks that the cars are so much slower than last year. I wouldn't care if it was just like a second or so but in Melbourne they lose more than 6 seconds on a 90 second lap compared to last year. I think that is too much for the supposedly highest class of car racing.
With that being said I won't care about it at all if the overall season is as entertaining as today's qualifying.
