Flew from Kansas City to Boston for the 1986 World Series. Granted, neither Red Sox nor Mets fan but it was the chance to see a Fall Classic matchup (I was at game 4.)

Otherwise, I went to Tampa one year for Iowa in the Outback Bowl.

Flew from Pittsburgh to Atlanta then drove to Birmingham to watch Pitt lose to Ole Miss in a worthless bowl game. My other trip was driving to Charlotte to watch Pitt beat UNC in another worthless bowl game.

I went from Ormskirk, England to Lloret de Mar, Spain for 4 hockey tours. That's a fair bit of mileage. Funnily enough, one year when we went, the first thing out goalkeeper did was find a bar that was showing the game OP mentioned and was gutted when he met up back at the hotel, having sat through that mauling.

Re: What's the furthest you've travelled for a sporting event?

I don't travel a whole lot for games, but I've done...

Longest Sports Trip — 1159 miles from Nashville, TN, to Denver, CO, for the NCAA Tournament. Sat directly behind the benches to see Morehead State (led by Kenneth Faried) upset Louisville (video here). Unfortunately, Richmond then upset Vandy. I did get to watch Jimmer go off in the other region's games.

Longest Single Game Trip — 922 miles from Nashville, TN, to West Point, NY, for a Vandy/Army football game. I happened to have gone home (NJ) that weekend for the Bruce Springsteen Giants Stadium concert for my birthday, so I agreed to cover the game while I was there. We lost in OT. It was pretty brutal to watch, but Army has a hell of a home crowd for football games. Fun stadium experience.

Longest Game Road Trip — 587 miles from Nashville, TN, to Baton Rouge, LA, for a Vandy/LSU football game. Longest I've road tripped for a game. Fun tailgate and exciting game, in which Vandy almost upset LSU. I also had my fake ID confiscated by a local bouncer. Fuck Baton Rouge.

I plan to make the trip back home if the Broncos go to the Super Bowl, though. I mean, how could I not?

Re: What's the furthest you've travelled for a sporting event?

Well, I flew nine hours from Scotland to Florida and went to a Rays game, but I never went to Florida in the first place specifically for that reason. So maybe that doesn't count.

Furthest I've travelled specifically for a game/event is Eindhoven (from Scotland).

Re: What's the furthest you've travelled for a sporting event?

Ten miles to Busch Stadium for a Cardinals game

Actually, I went to a Rays game in Tampa during a vacation there if that counts. Not really a "fan" of Rays, but still a sporting event.
