Was thinking the very same thing, or maybe it could just be to clear out any chance of there being any interference in the match at all, but either side poses the question, of 'Who attacked them? And why?'
Of course, I'd go with the former, Maddox mysteriously gets "injured", although we don't know how injured he really is at this point, then Sunday comes around and he's fine.

Obvs a work, but it could be indicating his involvement in the Rock/Punk match. I can't remember exactly what Vince said, was it that he would strip Punk of the title if The Shield got involved, or if anyone got involved?
If it was only The Shield, then Maddox will get involved and this attack is faked (as in kayfabe faked) so he is not seen as being a threat and it will be a surprise when he suddenly appears unharmed.
If Vince said if anyone gets involved, then I dunno.
