I just watched smackdown and I swear there were some long stretchs in matches where the "play by play" by cole didn't name a single move performed. everything was always called by a general "what a move" type of bullshit. the cesaro/santino match was the one that really stood out. i'm pretty sure the only move he named in the whole match was "the cobra" and santino never even did it. if i'm wrong, he might have called one or two out of a five minute match. i think i'm started to see the light when it comes to people complaining about coles horrible play by play.

I don't see why this bothers you... the last move I remember him calling on Raw was Ryback's powerbomb as a spinebuster. I'd rather he didn't call the moves if he's going to get such basic moves wrong after well over a decade in the business.

I also notice that Cole and Matthews very rarely call submissions by their name. Minus the few finishers ,No Lock\STF, they just say "submission manuver/potential submission manuver"

I like to think they do know the names but Vince tells them not to say them, but you can't rule out the possibility they don't know the names

It is a proposterous idea to assume that they do not know the names of these moves. They are IN the wrestling business- aside from that its not all that hard to remember the names unless its some sort of complicated move.

They tend to only call signature moves and finisher nowadays, ill have to admit the commentary was bloody awful this week and without booker out there over dramatizing everything, the matches seem very bland, and I can see it easy for casual views to get lost and bored during the match because of the poor, uninterested commentary.
