[b]Note I know Punk is playing the role of the kayfable heel & Jeff the kayfable face.
But in reality the roles are a tad reverse[b]
Hardy is playing the heel here really. Assaulting CM Punk after losing the title. Whining about CM Punk beating him. Winning his match with interference from Rey Mysterio after accusing & demeaning punk for doing the same thing earlier in the night. Slapping Punks hand away and pushing him after Punk congratulate him for winning the #1 contenders match. Arguing with punk after punk made a slow 3 count (because punk got speared) during the "Rage & the Cage". Assaulting punk after the Bash match. Blatantly faking an eye injury causing his team to lose the match.
Spoiler for Next Smackdown:
Even telling Jeff he should stop using drugs after being on 2 strikes gets him heat
Doesn't it seem like the heels are the honest guys often getting screwed. Looking back at the HBK vs Jericho feud, Jericho was really being honest about Shawn Michaels. Yet when HBK entered that pointless storyline with JBL, Michaels was cheers all-throughout despite playing the role of a heel.
Even with Triple HHH vs Orton. HHH cheated to win many matches, using a sledgehammer at wrestlemania(Even though the rules specifically said he'd lose his title if he did), getting himself DQ'd with a chair in the first stage of hell, assaulting him at his home etc.
Note: I'm not really complaining, I enjoy faces with 'attitude' (Triple H), and heels with personality (Jericho & Punk), just the fact that the fans will blindly cheer anything is pretty odd. I'm sure Triple H would turn heel if he could.

They're (Punk/Jericho) basically being an asshole or talking down to major face that no matter what that face does is a face (ex. Undertaker, HBK, Jeff, Mysterio, Cena). I like this route to turn a wrestler heel because it gives them a reason to talk down to the fans that shunned them for doing nothing wrong. It's so much better than a heel who cuts promos on the fans for no reason or a face that talks up the crowd pointlessly. I also think HHH could turn heel if he did something to HBK.

One thing about Jeff Hardy that I've always found hilarious is that he's a face, but he initiates all of his fights and arguments with both faces and heels, yet he still gets cheered and chants. If he was a Stone Cold or Triple H type babyface, it would be easier to understand, but since it's someone like Hardy who's like a rockstar 'baby' face, it's pretty funny to see. The only time it didn't work was in 03 with HBK, but he's way more over this time around.
I noticed Heels are actually the honest men of wrestling, or have been wronged in some way. Randy Orton is really the way he is because of Triple H, who betrayed him in 2004. Chris Jericho is the way he is because of HBK and the fans, while CM Punk is even an honest man, somewhat. I guess fans do not like an honest man, even if they are assholes. The truth does hurt.
Heels/face dont represent good/evil. It is merely two sides to a war, but none of the sides is really good or bad. Faces represent, how would I say.. what is socially appreciated by the american public. What is considered as "cool" to be for an american. Self-confident, dominating, etc. For instance, a face gimmick in the wwe would probably backfire in a country like japan, because the cultural ideals are completely different. In japan, it's considered extremely obnoxious to be overly confident in yourself, or to brag about your abilities. If you watch some japanese wrestling, you'd probably see heels being quite boastful and full of themselves, and faces being more quiet and collected.

yeah that's true. kids don't cheer for the straightedge lifestyle, they cheer for the meth taking, swanton bomb, weed smoking face painting dimwit who looks high everytime we see him... and reads note cards to get through promos. well beside the reading part which is what kids should do.
i think the bookers know that hardy is the one doing all the "heel" stuff and i think they are making it as blatantly obvious as possible just to show how stupid most of the fans are or something

Its just people sticking to their characters over being the 2d copycat face or heel we normally see and its awesome and makes the show that much better. Heel and face CM Punk is the same person all thats changed is how he is being portrayed really. I love it.

I completely agree with the OP. Punk is the face in this feud, even though he started it in a heelish way. Jeff also transitioned from face to heel, regardless of how over he is with the crowd. I'm loving this storyline as it is very complex with Jeff getting screwed and Punk technically doing nothing wrong or against the rules.
