You'd think so but if that were true, Morrison should be in contention above Jeff, since Jeff hasn't beaten Punk, and they've had 3 matches, yet Morrison pinned him clean last week.
If I were booking the WWE, I would make it that a win over the champ puts you in contention, but then again, I wouldn't have the champ taking pins to non main eventers on free tv either.
lack of consistency strikes again, watch raw from a few weeks ago when legacy first beat the colons, you will hear both cole and king say that it has put legacy in number 1 contention for a shot at the tag titles. i know because i remember thinking "oh are we back to having a defeat in a non title match putting you in No 1 position for the belt again?" then morrison beat punk and no mention of it a few weeks later and now kane beat rey and probably no mention of it...but if it works for legacy then...

Re: SmackDown July 3rd spoilers (finally!).
I like the match line up of this week more then the last.
Btw, I might be the only one to accept the Hart Dynasty losing a match to CT. Because it actually gives a reason for them to maybe have a rivalry with a team who hasn't done anything worth a damn in forever.

A day in the life of Charlie (when people drink beer in a flip cup contest): "Oh well, what's going on is you just drank a cup of poison."
(1) Finlay beat Ricky Ortiz. Not even a match. It was dominated by Finlay and he got the easy one, two, three.
-- They showed a video from the back in which Dolph Ziggler was warming up for his match. Maria showed up and said she had a great time from the night before and they should go out again soon. He agreed and Maria wished him good luck on his match.
(2) Dolph Ziggler beat R-Truth. Good match. Truth almost came out with the win, but Ziggler pulls out the win.
(3) Kane beat Intercontinental champion Rey Mysterio in a non-title match. The next match was a great match, which had Rey and Kane going back and forth. Rey gets Kane in the 619. He attempts to finish it, but Kane catches Rey in a chokeslam for the pin. After the match, Kane tries to chokeslam Rey again, but Great Khali's music hits and he comes to the ring with a chair in hand. Kane runs into the crowd to escape the wrath of Khali.
-- They went to an interview in the back with Chris Jericho and Edge to talk about the match with Hardy and Punk. They end up saying Hardy and Punk are dysfunctional and not a team like they are and claim to be the best in the business.
(4) Cryme Tyme (Shad Gaspar & JTG) beat Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd & D.H. Smith). Good match. Shad gets the win for Crime Tyme over David Hart Smith.
(5) Women's champion Michelle McCool & Layla beat Maria & Melina. It wasn't even a match with Melina scoring the pin on Layla while McCool looked on without even attempting to help her partner.
-- They went to a video in back with John Morrison watching his win over Punk from a week before with teddy long. He tells him he should fight the winner of the Punk-Hardy match after Night of Champions. Long says maybe. Long and Morrison then do a little tribute to Michael Jackson, singing some songs and dancing.
(6) Main event: Unified tag champions Chris Jericho & Edge beat World Hvt. champion C.M. Punk & Jeff hardy. Match was going good for Hardy and Punk. They looked like a team until Punk went for the tag, but Hardy mocked Punk by not making the tag and falling to the ground to claim his eye was injured. With Hardy on the floor, Edge and Jericho took advantage with Edge making a blind tag to spear Punk for the win. The show ends with Punk on his knees looking at Hardy walk away back to the locker room.
Dark match: IC champion Rey Mysterio & Jeff Hardy beat Unified tag champions Edge & Chris Jericho. After the show ended, there was a steel cage tag team match. It was a quick match with Mysterio and Hardy getting the pin with the 619 and Swanton bomb to end the night. Overall, a good show.
The funny thing is that Jeff is acting more like a douchebag yet the fans are cheering him on while Punk hasn't really done anything to him to warrant it yet he gets booed. lol

Noticed that, too. As Pyro said in another thread: when you look closely, you'll notice that the heels are the ones with clean lifes and college degrees while the faces live with drugs or go to jail. Strange world somehow. Guess they wanna make the heels look more "perfect" because we all aren't and would be some kind of jealous while we can relate to the faults of the faces.

I find it odd that they referred to the Edge and Jericho partnership as RatedY2J... seems very odd, given that Jericho has spent over a year trying to escape the label.
