Report: WWE To Halt The Double Smackdown! Tapings

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that with the announcement of the new WWE "Superstars" program, the double Smackdown tapings that have been running recently will most likely come to an end. WWE has been running the double tapings as a cost-cutting measure, however WGN, the network licensing the "Superstars" show, will be paying WWE a considerable amount of money which will help recoup the costs of running weekly Smackdown tapings.

Speaking of "Superstars," WWE.com had this to say concerning the new first-run program: "The new program, scheduled to debut in April 2009, will give the WWE Universe the opportunity to watch Superstars from Raw, SmackDown and ECW mix it up in the ring together on one program."

It appears that this deal w/ WGN is big bizness and we all know how Vince loves the $$$

Well they and MyTV were in a war over who would get SD and they lost, so they kept trying to get a deal and decided that the WWE could be a ratings getter

USA's #1 - Raw
SciFi's #1 - ECW
MyTV's #1 - SmackDown

WGN- low ratings because of re-runs, and when they do get high ratings it's because of the Bulls or Cubs, who usually appear on Wed or Sat which explains this show being on Thursday to avoid being preempted

They want to join the list above and not end up like these 2 below

Spike - Lost Raw and fell out of the top cable tv networks
CWTV - Now trails MyTV in the broadcast network standings

The new show sounds pretty cool.

Glad Smackdown! isnt having double tapings anymore, its much harder to not look at the results when u have to wait a week & a half to see the show
