Smackdown can't have repeat of 2007/Pre-Draft 2008
Smackdown right now is fresh, with all of the new talent coming over from the draft, with the biggest names being Jim Ross and Triple H. What Smackdown cannot do is a virtual repeat of the World Title Scene of last year through 2008 before the draft. All the World Title scene was during that time was Edge, Batista and The Undertaker, with a Khali reign mixed in there. It got boring fast having those three as the only legit contenders for the World Championship.
What Smackdown needs to do is build legit WWE Title contenders beyond Triple H, Edge and The Undertaker (when he comes back). Jeff Hardy, Big Show, Umaga, Kennedy and MVP all need to be built up to the point where they can seriously have a chance at being WWE Champion. Now, MVP and Kennedy are going to take longer to build up to that level then Hardy, Show or Umaga.
If everything goes as planned (no injuries or suspensions), 2009 could be the year of Kennedy or MVP. Make Big Show, Jeff Hardy and Umaga possible threats to take the title from anyone of the big three (Trips, Taker and Edge). It freshens up the WWE Title scene and we don't have to repeat Triple H vs. Edge vs. Undertaker (or two of the three) for every single PPV. Also, don't make Show, Hardy and Umaga as fillers for the big three, where Show, Jeff and Umaga have no shot at winning. That's what Smackdown did to Rey in the weeks leading up to No Way Out.
With this new talent and moving to a new network, I am optimistic that the WWE Title scene will not be a repeat of the World Title scene from last year/earlier this year.
