Nakamura's strength....

I see alot of guys blaming wwe for highlighting Nakamuras weaknesses and not highlighting his strengths.

The issue I have is that past his entrance music (that you cannot play on a loop for his entire match) and the odd stiff looking knee or kick what exactly are this guys strengths?

I see no charisma and barely any character. He can't talk and looks( I'm sorry to say) retarded.

Please sell me and anyone who hasn't Watched NJPW his strengths.

Re: Nakamuras strength....

His strengths are that he's from Japan so he must be the greatest ever. Right?!? :beckylol

Ive seen him everywhere that he's wrestled and I can't tell you anything good about him. And people singing along to your theme as you make weird hand gestures and act like youre having a seizure doesnt mean you're charismatic. He's severely overrated and should get nowhere near the main events.

Re: Nakamuras strength....

I'll admit to not being his biggest fan. I didn't know too much about him before he debuted on NXT. I also haven't been a major fan of his NXT run whether due to booking or his feuds just not being as good as they were hyped up to be.

However, him not living up to the hype that surrounded his debut is fine because I've never felt so darn hyped about a wrestler I was unfamiliar with based on their debut. His match with Zayn wasn't as great as many said it was but it was easily the best match of the Wrestlemania 32 weekend and the guy sold me instantly on his talent and charisma.

That's where you are wrong OP. Nakamura is the most charismatic active wrestler in the WWE and it's not even a contest. His stiff style is a huge contrast to what you normally see in WWE and he clearly knows how to work. The only thing he really needs to work on is his mic skills but that's more down to the language barrier than anything else. He has all the tools to be a mega-star in WWE, but whether he's booked well enough to show them off, and whether he will eventually live up to all that hype he had, is what we'll need to find out.

He is charismatic, other than that I dont see much of anything else.

Re: Nakamuras strength....

I too haven't seen any of his Japan work; I don't watch their products. I also don't watch Nxt, so I never saw Nakamura there either.

Thus, I'll wait before passing judgment. He just started his feud with Ziggler, has cut just 1 promo, and has not wrestled on television yet. He hasn't done anything significant, in other words.

That's what I was saying, I see no compelling attractiveness or charm and I definitely dont see being inspired by him. What's your point? I need to go to school because I don't see any charisma in someone?

I don't think you can consider someone is charismatic just by his entrance. His theme rocks, yeah, but that entrance is weird as fuck.
I haven't see a pinch of charisma in Nakamura in this 4 weeks on SD, I'm sure that people who hasn't saw Nakamura before WWE, right now have a bad image about him.
Reread the definition of charisma .. obviously its still not clicking.

When you get the pop he does from an entrance, then still have thousands of fans singing along to the music/watching/marking out ... obviously theres some sort of charisma effect. Fans don't mark just to mark... smh.

So your all saying

'what OP? How is he not charismatic? '

He doesn't speak English so he can't sell charisma to me by speaking.
He makes seizure like arm movements that don't sell charisma to me.
He is good in the ring but without being able to understand his motivation and drive (he can't talk) why should I care about his matches?

Where is this charisma you all see?

Re: Nakamuras strength....

I think his charisma comes from his attitude and literal body actions. I will agree it could come off as a bit retarded :lol, but also exaggerated. Most comparisons I've seen relate him to Prince or Freddy Mercury. I feel he adds a rock star/sexy vibe, but through physicality.

He is extremely hard hitting, but is able to bring out the same hard hitting in his opponents. I think that's unique, and almost an enamoring effect. I almost watch Nakamura matches to see how his opponent's style changes. "I'm the shit and I know" it doesn't sum up Nakamura, but WWE pushes him like so.

Much of the love for him on this website is absolutely blind and bandwagon. But, he's great in NJP and I can't see him not being somewhat great in WWE.

He,s amazing in the ring. Top 3 in the world for sure. He,s also one of the more charismatic guys and has a unique look and style to him

Re: Nakamuras strength....

LMAO

Nakamura has no charisma?

OP sounding like a dude who does not know the definition of charisma. Everything you have described about Nakamura sounds like Balor.

Are you sure you don't mean the short irish bloke who has an amazing entrance but bombs soon as the lights hit?

i'd argue Naka is easily one of the most charismatic guys on the roster, i would love to bottle what he has.

I agree that Balor is worse but after a year of Nakamura on NXT I still cannot see where the hype comes from.

Re: Nakamuras strength....

It takes a lot more than a flashy entrance and a little charisma to make one great. Was he great in Japan, oh hell yes, has it translated well to WWE, nope. He is phenomenal, just not in WWE.........YET. He could adapt and be one of the greatest, we will have to see. Same exact thing can be said for Balor, Itami and Asuka (although she seems to be developing into quite the heel, despite the language barrier). Lets all chill and see where they take us.

Re: Nakamuras strength....

I mean I'll give you that he looks and sounds retarded but he can go like crazy in the ring. His matches with Zayn and Rude in NXT were top fucking notch. I just wish they'd work around his accent better. Maybe give him some alternative form of communication (since I think he's above having a mangager/translator).

Re: Nakamuras strength....

Nakumura is not wrestling on Smackdown and probably he will fight his first match only on Backlash and against Ziggler, i don't know how people is gonna like him till that time, not everyone would have watched NXT or other areas where he wrestled.... If that's what they try to do it just ruins the match as he is bound to win it and if he ain't able to win against Ziggler (who gets beat all the time) then it will be very bad...

Re: Nakamuras strength....

WWE have botched this. For someone who has never seen Nakamura before, which is 80% - 90% of the Smackdown audience, they must think this guy is terrible.

And the worst thing is WWE will drag this out for another month before he finally steps in the ring and faces Ziggler at Backlash.

This really is important here. Even as a someone who is familiar with Nakamura from New Japan, I can say that he looks terrible out there. The only thing preventing me from saying he sucks is the fact that I've seen what he's capable but most of the audience aren't in that same position to refrain judgement. What they see out there is nothing special in any way whatsoever. They see a weird goofy guy who can barely speak english. WWE have royally fucked up by trying to present him as a WWE guy with traditional WWE booking. This feud, the back and forth promos, the occasional match he wrestles all won't work for him. They are completely ignoring his strengths and highlighting his weaknesses. WWE have yet again handled something in the exact opposite manner that they should have.

Re: Nakamuras strength....

I LOVE that they are building anticipation to his first live match. While his promo work isnt amazing, the crowd is still on his side and Zigglar is getting good exposure.
I liken it to what happened with Sting, Tye Dillinger is getting hype through winning matches, Jinder through promos, and they are trying something new with Nakamura.

I think WWE is shifting to getting people to respond positive or negative. They are just going for reactions trying to become the talk of the water cooler like they once were.
