Man, I just have to say....wtffff hahahahahahahahaah
You've all seen me complain about there being too much comedy with Owens/Rollins/Jericho on Raw but over the last couple weeks it's gotten a lot more serious and a lot darker. Good!
Then we switch over to SD and TLC, a damn good ppv right up until the last 10 minutes. Miz had just carried Zigglers ass to one of the best ladder matches in ages and there had been some other good stuff throughout. The main event itself was pretty good, with lots of cool spots and AJ making Ambrose look a million bucks...and then Ells pops up.
First off, why has he become the center of a feud between a world champion and a contender? Is Ambrose in a relationship with Ells? What's his betrayal all about anyway? He gets his arse kicked and injured by AJ then he gets beat up again on the PPV and still turns on Ambrose? For no apparent reason? It's not like they can even say that Ells and AJ were in it together the whole time and pretended to fight, since everyone SAW HIM FUCKING STYLES CLASH HIM ON THE OUTSIDE.
I dunno if SD are going for genuine comedy but the last ten minutes just had me laughing, especially since my bro mentioned Ells looks like Gilberg :grin2:
If and this is a big IF, the comedy is meant to be there and SD is going for a full on comedy show vibe then that PPV gets a 10/10 but if this is a serious story then that's the worst PPV ending of ALL TIME and ellsworth is worse booking than what WCW were doing in their final days.
It was just the most bizarre finish ever. The ending was an excuse for an Ellsworth heel turn, but why is he doing that in the main event for the title?
Styles was en route to winning, as Ellsworth wanted. He interrupts, lets Ambrose position himself for victory, then turns on him? It just made no sense, especially when AJ looked like he was about to retain the title cleanly.
I was expecting to see Ellsworth far sooner, I expected him to accidentally cost Ambrose the match - and that made sense. Talking Smack made it seem like Ellsworth was more delusional than a heel, so what even was the point? It wasn't a real heel turn, the crowd were backing AJ anyway, and Ellsworth just seems stupid.
Long term what can they get from this? An Ambrose heel turn? Sure, but you could've done that without Ellsworth interfering like that. It really just turned a decent main event into the Ellsworth show, and for what? So that later tonight we can watch him fight AJ, being 99% sure that AJ will retain yet somehow it won't be clean? I'm just waiting to see where they go after tonight, because this isn't a twist, it's a speed bump. It's slowing down the pace of something, but I have no idea what.
Well, on Talking Smack, Bryan did specifically bring up how Ellsworth's interference devalued the title, which leads me to believe it's just another twist in an elaborate and increasingly ridiculous angle. I've given up trying to figure out where they're going with it.
In all honesty, Raw is the better show and the Universal title is being handled better...ofc all of this is relative as both shows are pretty shitty.
What makes me annoyed though is not the quality of SD, I'm not one of these smarkidiots who somehow think the two shows are separate entities but they way Styles title run has been turned into a comedic mess.
I'm still holding out hope that this is meant to be intentionally funny and SD is supposed to be a comedy relief show.

This whole Ellsworth thing is downright stupid. So many other great talents they could have there in that spot and instead they go with a guy who's nothing more to me than a glorified jobber.

You do realize that you complain about a wrestler being a glorified jobber, who is supposed to portray a glorified jobber. So you are saying Ellsworth is doing a great job.
After this angle plays out the best case for Ellsworth is a role in the cruiserweight division. This gimmick is career suicide for a young legit talent and that´s why WWE hired an indy veteran, who is perfect for the role and really has nothing to lose career-wise. This is like playing Eugene or Muhammad Hassan. There is nobody that could play this role better than Ellsworth, looks or micskill wise.
Ellsworth did serve his purpose in this storyline up to this point and that is be used as a tool by Dean to get inside AJ's head which has worked but ultimately did not. I think they should end this Ellsworth angle and should of giving him a great explanation for him costing Ambrose the match, but it doesn't make SDL into a bad show in general as the angle has overall been good.
Ellsworth just needs to leave, or at least get out of the main event scene. Has no business being there. After one win over AJ I was thinking that it was ok. But now it's just gotten bad. Can't wait until AJ destroys him. The finish to TLC made absolutely no sense. Why did he come out when AJ was heading up the ladder for the win instead of Ambrose?
I assume you didnt hear him on Talking Smack after the PPV? His reasoning is "I beat AJ 3 times, I can't beat him fourth time for the title which is why I wanted AJ to retain" because in his deluded mind, he thinks he can beat AJ on his own.
As much as I hate Ellsworth being featured in the mainevent scene title picture, his reasoning for interfering is not half that bad.

Maybe the story is this: Ellsworth thinks he can beat AJ Styles on his own since he has three wins over him. So he would much rather face AJ than Ambrose. That could be why he cost Ambrose.

With the feud being so long they needed something to keep it fresh and Ellsworth has extended the feud well which is good because they don't really have anyone else to pair AJ with right now.
Styles and Ambrose re delivering on the mic and in their matches so I really dont mind Ellsworth at all.
I'm glad I got tickets for RAW and not SD!. Even though I was liking SD! more since brand split i don't want to go see a main event with this ET mother fucker.
I would rather see fat owens and reigns over that.
It reminds me the Ruthless era when Raw was fucking serious about everything but a bit boring, while SD was in lower quality but more funny.
