As noted, FOX recently renewed American Grit, which is hosted and executive produced by John Cena, for a second season.
There was speculation that John Cena would be leaving WWE soon to start filming the second season given the finish of his match to AJ Styles at WWE SummerSlam last week. Cena lost his match to AJ Styles clean, and left one of his "Never Give Up" bands on the mat before leaving the ring. He has yet to appear on WWE television since the loss, although he wrestled dark matches at RAW and SmackDown last week.
Despite that finish, we have learned that Cena will not be taking a hiatus from WWE until mid-October, which is when the first season began filming last year. Cena is expected to be out of action for most - if not all - of the remainder of the year to film the show.
Kind of sucks for Smakdown. He won't be on Backlash, and now he will miss No Mercy and Survivor Series as well. I guess the question should be asked what do with him before he has to leave in October. Hopefully, they have a heel get the heat of writing him off TV for the rest of the year.
Despite being a big critic of Cena over the years, i would probably have no qualms with this at all. I've actually liked his work since returning from injury, and he's put over Styles big time.
I don't want Styles vs Cena to be at Wrestlemania. The Royal Rumble is better.
Styles doesn't need another Wrestlemania loss, and Wrestlemania going off the air with Cena holding the title is something Im tired of seeing. Plus, they have already faced each other 2 times one on one, so for Wrestlemania we need something new.
There is no reason whatsoever to do it again. SummerSlam was the blowoff. Besides, if both men are healthy, I expect Cena to face Undertaker at the next WrestleMania.
Why would anyone want Cena/Styles 3? That makes no sense. THAT WAS THE BLOW OFF. Dude left his armband in the ring, AJ kicked out of a top rope AA and beat him clean. Why do it again? That would be stupid.
It's kind of strange to me how BADLY I actually want AJ vs. Cena to main event Mania, when I know full well Cena is going over. But damn it this feud has been SO perfect I have no problems with it. And the match is going to fucking rule and I have no doubt they will pull out another classic.
They're not doing Styles vs Cena at WM. John will get the belt in January at the Rumble and win the following rematch at the February PPV and if Vince is feeling extra sadistic, they'll do the blow off down the line with Cena going over, because no "outsider" (TNA/WCW) is getting the last laugh over a McMahon creation. Ask Sting.
Either way, this company has made it pretty clear they're building towards the future, and that's being paid more than lip service. That being the case, there's virtually no chance the biggest star on the roster doesn't walk into WM with the WWE title. John will be defending the belt against a young guy, not against a 40 year old he's already wrestled -- and lost to -- twice. There's a better chance of Reigns (who is almost guaranteed to get fed Brock) being traded to SD and going over Cena for the title than there is of AJ vs Cena rehash at WM. If this was their first or second meeting, then sure, but it's not happening and anyone with fingers crossed hoping otherwise are setting themselves up for heartbreak when he returns to collect AJ's debt -- and his armband -- in January.

Cenas not walked into mania as champion since wm23 in 2007 so I don't see him doing it in 2017 especially given the fact he has been booked as a midcarder since the summer of 2014 ( and hasn't even mainevented a ppv in a singles match since that time)
Even then who is the younger guy he could work, the options are limited if we just pick sd
He could work Ambrose or Wyatt, both are younger
He could work Orton or styles
Or outside bet Corbin or crews who both can't even make tv these days
It depends if Cena doesn't return to TV before he leaves in mid October to start filming. If Cena stays off TV the entire town, then we will get Cena vs. Styles III in early 2017.
But, what if before Cena leaves they have a new heel like Baron Corbin or even a freshly turned Ziggler take him out to write him off TV? Just something to think about.
They won't keep Cena off tv that whole time. Right now there doing it to sell the loss and to Ambrose/Styles(without Cena being involved with AJ). Since its only 3 weeks between Summerslam/Backlash it's not a big deal. At No Mercy it will either be AJ/Cena one on one again. Or they will be in some multi-man title match with Ambrose and maybe someone else. My guess is Cena "surprise" return at Backlash cost AJ the match at Backlash. My guess is Cena music hits AJ gets all distracted and turns into a Dirty Deeds and Ambrose gets the pin 1,2,3. Then Cena gets in the ring AAs AJ and takes his arm band back.

Yeah I don't see that happening. Cena can be a dick sometimes but he never does something THAT heelish. I know the last match with Ambrose and Styles he did but that was only because The Club got involved first.
I could see a Triple Threat between Ambrose, Styles, and Cena at No Mercy.
Cena's not winning the Rumble, that's for Roman to set up his next match with Brock. Regardless, him winning and beating AJ for the title at Mania is the most boring, predictable option on the planet, so of course it's going to happen. Doesn't give me a whole lot of goodwill towards SmackDown.
Cena is advertised to be in Shanghai, China, for another show the day before Backlash and you'll notice in all their video packages hyping the show, Cena is nowhere to be found.
It's still possible he shows up as a surprise though.
Yeah, I'll pass on a Styles/Cena match at Mania. They had a great match at SS with the right guy going over, no need for another match just to give Cena his win back.
This is why I thought Cena should've won at Summerslam, so they could do the feud ending rubber match between AJ and Cena at Backlash, AJ wins and then gets the WWE Title match with Ambrose at No Mercy.
Gives Cena something to do and puts over AJ on his way out until he actually takes his break in mid-October. Also gives Ambrose a bit of a longer reign.
I really hope we don't get Cena vs. AJ III at Wrestlemania. If they're gonna do it again for the WWE Title, Royal Rumble is fine.
Cena last scheduled show is October 11th Smackdown. Which is the Smackdown right after No Mercy. So maybe they do AJ/Cena 3 at No Mercy(maybe Ambrose defends title in a 3-way vs Orton and Bray Wyatt) and give John his win back at a B ppv. Then someone like Baron Corbin or Bray Wyatt or someone beats up Cena on Smackdown. Setting up a injury angle or excuse for him to be off tv and feud for him to return to for the Rumble. Plus since Cena off tv shortly after No Mercy. People will quickly forgotten AJ lost at No Mercy and Summerslam win will stick out more in memories.
I love how ordinary and non threatening Dean Ambrose is in the above post. He seriously looks like some fans taking a picture with the WWE title. Years ago we were warned and it happened. Jon Moxley is dead. PG Dean Ambrose is alive and looking as ordinary as all hell.
