Is this how they should build Ambrose-AJ Styles?

AJ wanting to win his first ever WWE title (self explanatory) and thinking the match is nothing but a formality, that he just needs to show up at Backlash to beat Ambrose. He beat the face that runs the place, what's Dean Ambrose to him?

Dean Ambrose on the other hand plays the underdog, he's going up against the more talented wrestler who is on a hot roll with all the momentum. Ambrose desperately needs to beat AJ as validation as the top guy in the company and needs it to prove the doubters all wrong.

I like it, personally. There's so many ways they can go which makes it really exciting. I still don't feel like the belt will switch hands after a two week build, but when Ambrose does lose, it should be booked in a manner that makes it clear Dean simply couldn't keep up. AJ had a counter for everything and snaked his way out every time Dean had him on the ropes. Less of a 50/50 thing and more 55/45. Think Neo vs Agent Smith in the subway fight scene from the Matrix (prior to Neo becoming The One.) That should be the catalyst to transition him away from the "lunatic fringe" and the joking.

It'll be time for him to become the "Kingpin" they are slowly trying to get over. No nonsense, tweener Ambrose that borders on a heel (but doesn't win dirty) would be huge. He realizes he has a long way to go. A little Cactus Jack and Austin cranked up to ten. Let him swear and push the envelope as he obsessively claws his way back to the top of the mountain. Him finally beating AJ next year would be a much better story than him going over in this feud. Dean is going to need to fall before he really takes off like he's capable of and AJ is the perfect opponent to kick-start that evolution.

Was that the Harry Potter theme I heard at the end? Lol.

Anyways, to me, this match should be built as two equals, one challenging and one defending. Ambrose’s record is practically unblemished since WrestleMania, and AJ beat John Cena clean, although not having a spotless record the whole year.

And then, whether at Backlash or No Mercy, Ambrose gets so frustrated with not being able to beat AJ, he becomes a desperate man to retain at any costs, facilitating a double turn.

Agreed. Ambrose has shown a new found sense of cockiness since winning the belt, that should turn into desperation once he realizes that he's bitten off more than he can chew with AJ. That desperation turns into an obsession when AJ beats him and he just doesn't feel the same without his belt, facilitating either a double turn or a full blown tweener Ambrose whose just running through everybody in anger as he tries to retrieve the gold. I'd rather this be tweener/heel to be completely honest. AJ's been fantastic as a heel.

Styles is the hottest guy in wrestling today and deserves a win and a lengthy run after 18 freaking years in the industry. Ambrose is barely 30 and has a decade left. Put the title on styles and use the loss for ambrose to create a new serious version. Have him snap. If booked right this could elevate both guys.

Ambrose is cocky and overconfident (with good reason TBF, he's on a roll right now). He doesn't take AJ seriously, which costs him. Either he loses the belt to AJ at Backlash (the first SDL-Exclusive PPV, so I could see them maybe doing that).

Then he becomes more and more desperate and unhinged to regain the title. This leads to either a double-turn, or Ambrose at least becoming a more overt tweener. He starts barreling through everyone in his path, both heel and face, on a quest to regain what he thinks is rightfully his.

Meanwhile, AJ gets a nice and successful run with the belt (which he deserves) in the meantime.

Ambrose shouldn't be going into this as an underdog. He beat his two Shield partners in a triple threat match, and is Smackdown's main man right now, he shouldn't be viewed as second favourite to anybody on SD's roster at this point. Ambrose's different attitude in his feud with Ziggler was great, he just needs to maintain that sort of standpoint.

First of all they only have two weeks to do this feud now. So they will probably cut a promo on each other both hyping out how good they are. Making both look cocky and confident in themselves. They already showed last week they aren't gonna go in the direction you want them to. Ambrose doing commentary didn't fear facing AJ at all. He was like yeah beating Cena was big, but he didn't sweat it and respond by saying I been quite the roll lately myself. Remember AJ got in Ambrose face, and Dean stood tall with AJ walking away.

Let's be honest here, AJ isn't huge or powerful like Brock Lesnar or all-time great like Triple H. There's no reason why Ambrose should be underdog or fear AJ in this match. Plus no WWE wrestler is ever going to fear AJ for winning titles in TNA, indies or Japan, WWE looks down on those places. Not to mention a wrestler having great talent to put on strong matches with offensive moves. Isn't something wrestlers ever sell as fearing. Did wrestlers ever fear wrestling Shawn Michaels in any storylines? Or heck CM Punk? If anything those guys were underdogs in feuds.

Plus Ambrose is the champ, he just beat Seth Rollins clean and pinned Roman Reigns to win at Battleground in the same week. He mocked and embarassed Ziggler at Summerslam beating him just like he said he would. Not to mention he also has a WIN over AJ Styles. So AJ can say he's been great outside of the WWE, beat the face that runs the place in Cena in WWE and now is taking the title. Well Ambrose has more then enough to fire back with, making him no underdog. Heck Ambrose could easily say Me and my club the Shield was beating up John Cena back when you were wrestling in bingo halls brother. So I think the feud will be about two guys who think their the best WWE has to offer. AJ has all the moves, while as Daniel Bryan mentioned in the past. Ambrose as all the heart, will and passion and will fight harder then anyone to win.
