Something about Sheamus

Sheamus just never did it for me as a top tier face character on either brand. While I do respect his in ring work, the guy seems to be a workhorse, I really don't like his character. Del Rio, Orton, Jericho, Kane, Bryan, Mysterio, and Rock are faces I want to cheer because they are not as cartooney as Sheamus. As I watched the Sheamus/Big Show feud, I was thrilled that Big Show went over because at least Show plays a good heel role, while Sheamus just sounds way too lame on the mic its just so cringeworthy how am I supposed to get into a guy that acts like a watered down John Cena?

Does anyone else feel these sentiments? If not why not? Does Sheamus entertain you?

OI FELLA, SO YOU SAY YOU DON'T LIKE ME CHARACTER HUH? (*smirks stupidly) I REMEMBER BACK IN DUBLIN, ME UNCLE JAMES FLANNERY USED TO GET SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, AND YOU KNOW WHAT HE DID? HE WOULD FOIGHT! JUST LIKE I FOIGHT! AND ANUDDER THING WE SHARED IN COMMON, WE'RE BOTH GREAT AT KICKIN' ARSE! (*pounds chest 12 times)

Yeah. Sheamus' character is a tiresome stereotype. Whenever he shows up on screen, it's a struggle to stay awake.

Like others have said his gimmick doesn't really suit him, if you remember Sheamus got really over when he was just turning from heel to face and had that feud with Henry. He was more tweener then and it suited him. Ideally he should be a badass tweener, that would suit him best. However clearly he is being marketed towards kids, which is a pity for the rest of us.

In the ring I think he's great, puts on excellent matches, had one of my favourite matches in years when he took on Jericho on Smackdown a while back. He even got good matches out of Big Show.

Would love to see Sheamus v Lesnar, think that match would be gold, let Heyman carry the brunt of the promo work. Lesnar and Sheamus just take lumps out of each other.

His matches are entertaining, but that's it. To me his character is too cheesy to be taken real seriously.

I know this will never happen, but if he had a gimmick change he'd be a lot better

i did a video on this awhile ago, two things for us his path way to the top, hurt him, he debuts on cw has a few matches but never really develops into anything, he gets moved to raw and gets pushed hard before he is even established (due to triple h and vince mcmahon's fondness for him) in 3 weeks he is champion, so long term they booked themselves into a corner and his run is resented due to the circumstances behind it. There was no big chase and establishing of who sheamus is for us to get behind him and in addition to that, his promos are goofy and don't pump fans up to see him kick anyone's ass.

You are right the kids dig him. Nothing wrong with that at all, let them have Cena/Ryback/Sheamus, but outta those 3 Sheamus is all around a better worker then those other two and he can wrestle a classic match with more than half the roster. It would be foolish to think hes not good in the ring when really he's near great for his size. Best big man in WWE since The Undertaker IMO.

He is as underrated as they come.

He's booked with a cartoonish/ larger than life persona a la guys of the 80s like hogan, savage, etc. I miss mid-late 90s characters that seemed like people you could pass walking down the street. It's more believable IMO. Vince has done a complete 180 from his famous introduction of the attitude era video and sheamus is proof of that. Plus the guy looks winded 5 minutes into his matches

Sheamus is becoming one of the more underrated wrestlers on the show, at least based on how the forum here is starting to talk about him lately.

Sheamus is definitely good in the ring. Saying otherwise just makes you look like a fool who has a terrible eye for talent and skills. Sheamus is a very good combination of brawler and power wrestler. He also wrestles with a lot of energy and makes most of his spots entertaining.

I agree that his gimmick isn't that entertaining on the mic, but that's what he's given. Not every wrestler is going to be marketed to nerds in their 20s and 30s. He's marketed towards kids, and he does a good job with his role.

My only real issue with Sheams is the heavy accent. I wish he sounded a bit more "normal", but it isn't a huge deal. When he had the "pissed off" gimmick, it wasn't a big deal. Gimmick has changed, but he's not only just as good in the ring, he's improved some too.

Sheamus is one of the top wrestlers on the show easily imo.

Plus the guy looks winded 5 minutes into his matches
Why does everyone cry about this lately?

Sheamus moves around a lot quickly and does exciting spots. No shit he's going to be more winded than a "technical wrestler" who mostly stands around holding someone or laying on the ground half the time when he's not slowly walking to his next spot or just doing slow strikes that don't look realistic since they require the other guy to stand there doing nothing for 10-15 seconds straight and just eat the slow strikes.

Whereas Sheamus is doing fast, hard, clubbing blows, lifting and throwing people all over the place, and running around the ring to smash into people and be exciting.

It requires more energy.

I'm a big Sheamus fan, and yeah, he's too cheesy. I wouldn't mind if he acted this way some of the time, but he needs to be more serious and arrogant. Wrestling is like politics: if you're not outlandishly claiming to be the best and grab attention, then its as if you lack confidence altogether. The only clean good guys should be the few ones who are actually GREAT at it, like John Cena. All this criticism applies to Del Rio as well. Friendly 90% of the time just isn't shocking/interesting/unpredictable.

Sheamus is cool. It's a shame though he'll never get to work matches with guys like Shawn Michaels or Edge or Undertaker or basically anyone that has left WWE in the last few years. A guy like Batista had the benefit of wrestling those guys and had great matches. Sheamus could have done the same... maybe even better

Of course Sheamus is corny. He is appealing to children right now. That's exactly what his boss has told him to do. He has a job, and it's selling the character. I agree that he should at least try to be more serious than goofy. There is something in between goofy, and serious, but he just hasn't hit that spot just yet. It's no different than goofy heel Angle, or wise ass Stone Cold trying to make funny comments. Sheamus has to fine that perfect mesh. If the WWE wasn't so PG they could probably get away with some adult humor.

I wish Sheamus was given the same chance to put on matches like CM punk and Cena have had, maybe he will when he eventually turns Heel. I do think he can become a Stone Cold type of character and it would suit him.

Sheamus is a bit boring although I found his impressions of Booker T/Vicki and Vince entertaining on main event. Then again, what character in WWE isn't tiresome?

It seems they're pushing Sheamus with every other top face's qualities rather than his own. They make him love to fight, be a goof ball, make hardcore promos, wreck heel's cars...all of this has been done and been better by others.

He is a recycled, completely artificial face. I think if he brought in more Irish stuff (his actual gimmick) he'd be original at least. He just needs to do his own thing versus canned, already done, things.

I think he's got an interesting character and his matches are good, to be honest, the guy seems like a throw back to the 80's and early 90's body slam style of wrestling where you just see the guy do power move after power move. Really, his written promo's that the bookers tell him to recite are so bad, it hurts the character. If it wasn't for that, he'd probably be over.

I am a semi supporter on Sheamus but his gimmick of Cena has got to end. I would rather they make him a monster character. When Sheamus goes berserk int he ring, the crowd real;ly light up but when he does those cheesy promos no one gives a damn, the guy has gotta really let loose a bit more.

He has had sokme pretty good matches though, some have been dreadful but some have been pretty good.
