Better show? At times yes, definitely in 2003

Flagship show?

The roster on SD during these times was far better.

It was never the flagship show even though it had better storylines and wrestling than Raw did during some years.

No however it was 'equal' in 2002 and 2003 IMO.

I mean Hulk Hogan, Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Kurt Angle, The Rock were exclusive to Smackdown, I mean just read those names, in comparison RAW had Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin but that's about it.

Yup. Moving to Friday killed it for me; loved watching on Thursdays but once it was moved to Fridays I don't even keep up with it unless I have a reason to stay in

There have been times where it was about equal when they had a brand split and talent pushing SD up, but that time is long since past

As many have said, pre-brand split Smackdown and Raw were pretty much on equal footing. Storylines and feuds that started on Raw would continue through to Smackdown and loop back through to Raw. As a matter of fact, Smackdowns before PPVs used to be epic because they would be the go home shows. The first years of the brand split saw Smackdown put on a superior wrestling product, but I don't think it was meant to be on the same level as Raw at that point.

If you could make the case for SmackDown being the flagship show, it would have to be between '02-'04. While RAW was simply "The HHH Show", on SmackDown you had Rey, Eddie, Angle, Benoit, & Lesnar (as well as many other players) to give you exciting week to week action and intensity, as opposed to Triple H cutting 20-minute boring promos every Monday night.

I don't think so. Raw has a richer history and I would assume they would always push it over any other product. Smackdown was Rock's show though, so that should prove how much of a push it was getting

I felt like at times it was either bigger than Raw or definitely just as important. Usually the bigger show is considered where the WWE Championship was. At the time of the brand extension, the WWE title was on Smackdown for about 3 years. I think at that point Smackdown was bigger than Raw. Then it went through a period of time where both shows were equal. I would say 2005-2009 they were equal. But beginning in 2010, the Raw brand definitely became much bigger than Smackdown could hope to be.

I pretty much consider Smackdown at times to be a major recap show for Raw featuring exclusive matches.
