Default Del Rio and the WHC

Alberto Del Rio has been in the World Heavyweight Championship scene the whole year. At every single PPV since January, he was in a match for the WHC. In one way or another, we have the same person (someone who is widely considered to be boring as shit on the mic btw) hog the pseudo-entry into main event for a whole year. Meanwhile people like Cesaro, Cody, Sandow, Ziggler (kind of), Ryback, and Barrett get ignored. When Del Rio finally drops the belt, he loses it to Cena of all people. It's complete and utter retardation.

I don't think it will end up being retardation in the long run, if Cena puts ome young talent over by losing cleanly to them, when losing the title.

One can only hope.

It's more about Vince's obsession with Del Rio in the main event. I just don't get it... sure, he's amazing in the ring, but that alone doesn't warrant 3 years of overpushing. It's ridiculous.

It was the same last year. I wonder how many times he have held the whc title already. The horror when sheamus returns and del rio has the whc and cena has moved on. Will probably see them go head to head another 4 or how many times it was in a row.

This actually pays off in the end. Hear me out.

The only reason Del Rio is constantly battling for the title is only so that Cena can get a bunch more wins off him, to add value to the belt. Having Del Rio or someone winning it off Cena the minute he won the title doesn't help anyone, because it wouldn't feel as supremely satisfying as winning off Cena after he's destroyed opponents here and there and settled himself as the a true dominant champion.

But once he loses... hoo boy.

The only thing I have against Cena's current title run was Sandow cashing it in too early.

I hope you're right and there's a satisfying payoff for this. It's getting really hard for me to bear Del Rio in the main event. If a major star gets made from this suffering at Wrestlemania, I'll be fine, but I just don't see it. Creative has shown us time and again that they're incapable of capitalizing on things like this.

WWE's strategy is based on international growth.
Spanish is the 3rd most widely spoken language on the planet, after Mandarin and English. Mexico is a big wrestling market. The hispanic population in the US is 14% and will rise to 25% in the next 20 years.

That is why Del Rio is being pushed.

WWE will keep pushing Del Rio until they find another 6'5 bilingual Mexican.

Just wait until WWE finds a 6'5 bilingual Chinese dude who can wrestle.

Bilingual is key because WWE wants them to be able to work local media in the native language. That's why they love Del Rio so much, he can go on places like Univision or local morning TV shows in Mexico and sell WWE.

That's why they love Cesaro, he can sell WWE in Europe so well. It's why they are so high on Sami Zayn, dude speaks Arabic, the 5th most spoken language on the planet. He will be working the middle east media like crazy once he's on the roster. It's why WWE always keeps at least one Japanese wrestler on the roster.

The WWE model requires the international talent to speak English, too, though. Got to be bilingual. WWE is desperate to find a Chinese wrestler who can speak Mandarin and English. And an Indian wrestler who can speak Hindi and English.

WWE's business model is all about growing the international TV market. And that means having international stars.

He's a big draw in Mexico, We get it. Doesn't mean he has to be in EVERY freaking World Title Match. Del Rio can be still pushed without chasing a World Title. Give him a feud with a Daniel Bryan or something. Who knows maybe it will help him because obviously throwing World Titles on him and having him in the World Title picture isn't working.

Yeah, I've never heard of someone being in a World title match at every ppv in a calender year. That's just ridiculous and shows that WWE really needs to unify the World titles at Wrestlemania.
