So, today I legitimately forgot who the Tag Team Champs were.

Yes, it's true.

In a moment of obfuscation that would have made Teddy Long blush, I forgot who the hell was WWE Tag Champs.

I didn't just head straight to the net to find out, but when it finally came to me, I thought wow, The Shield really haven't done anything memorable at all since winning the titles.

Rather than being a 'The Shield is getting stale' thread, it's more of a 'Which pair would make the most of having the titles' thread.

Personally, I think the whole division is shot to pieces, but if it would be anyone I'd say Prime Time Players.

You know, the Diva's division has a feud that's getting actual promo time and build, so I guess you could make the argument that the Diva's division is in a better state.

No real tag teams anymore. Back when the road warriors were around u didnt forget who the champs were cause them belts were just as important as the main title
HAHAHAHA

It's weird because there's probably enough talented teams on the roster to keep things interesting. The Shield are a great team; The Usos are fine in the ring and are good enough as a face team. Surprised Prime Time Players have never truly gotten a greater push as they started off pretty well. Dunno if Gabriel and Kidd are still a team (they should be really) but if so they could still be around to make things interesting. The problem is that I can't remember the last time a team came out and said 'we want the Tag Team titles' or 'we wanna challenge you for the Tag Team titles' or something to that effect only less straight to the point. The amount of mic time given to champions and challengers is practically non-existent, at least in matters related to the Tag Titles. This ends up meaning that any feuds that do occur (Which again, are rare) are forgettable and don't end up doing anything for the belts themselves. I agree that they're forgettable right now - when I saw the thread title I genuinely couldn't remember who was still holding them; part of me thought it was Team Hell No.

Michael McGillicutty, and I don't blame you since he hasn't left an impression on any human being in the world.

Shield haven't done anything with the tag belts. Have The Usos beat them and then they can drop the tag titles to the Wyatt Family. Might as well give them some gold since right now they're more important than The Shield.

The Shield has became a little irrelevant lately. They just ran to the ring, kick some ass and leave. They don't talk, they don't have matches and hell, what was the last time Dean Ambrose did something with the USA Title?

The issue ultimately is that a champion is only as good as his or her competition. If a champ's feuds are lacklustre, it is difficult for their reign to be memorable; if there is little or no competition for a belt, then its value is greatly reduced. Really, they should have begun to build up the tag division before the Shield took the belts, so that it would not feel like such a demotion compared to their days of fighting legitimate main eventers. Instead, during Hell No's reign, teams were built up slightly to compete against Kane and Bryan, only to be knocked down later on.

The WWE title would be greatly reduced in importance if it seemed like only two individuals wanted the belt or were capable of challenging for it. There should be four or five teams who have the potential to come after the Shield at any given time. I'm aware that it's a little optimistic to wish for secondary, non-title tag feuds with a little more gravitas than Tons of Funk vs Rhodes Scholars, but if done correctly, it would help to create the feeling that the tag division is not a two-horse town - and would create number 1 contenders more naturally than the current system of "ok, tag feud over, you go back to the bottom of the pack; now, let's have a #1 contenders' match and pretend like one of these teams consistently squashed by the champions have any chance of winning the belts this time around." They should, at the very least, make the tag titles feuds feel important and personal. Usos/Shield put on some great matches, but got stuck on the pre-show and were given very little opportunity to get on the mic, build a story and make people care. It's a rotten state of affairs for a championship that should be considered one of the company's crown jewels.

The Shield have been used as a plot device to keep main eventers busy for so long that it's hard to buy any midcard guys (the people who are SUPPOSED to be challenging for the titles) as a threat to them. The belts are irrelevant simply because the champions are so far above everyone else.
