He may be in the third spot on the card, but it's only under two GIGANTIC legit main events. With his age and injury history, this might be actually getting booked as his last big run before he hangs up the boots.
Christian is 39. Henry just signed a contract until age 45 and Christian's putting on longer and more physical matches than Henry. I'm not sure why the IWC keeps trying to put a cap on how long Christian can go in the ring. He's said numerous times that as long as he's having fun, he'll continue to wrestle. For all we know, he could be doing this for another decade.
There isn't a hidden meaning here. Christian's one more match is a carry over from his previous gimmick and he keeps saying it because it catches on and people repeat it. I think that anything else is taking it too far.
Christian's booking is because Smackdown needs a top face and there isn't any other realistic options who can put over Del Rio at SummerSlam. RVD is a part timer that isn't going to be put in a long term feud with Del Rio. Orton has the briefcase and isn't going to put over Del Rio. WWE is hesitant to put anyone over Sheamus. Christian was the only one left and the perfect man to do it.
If anything, Christian's booking is going to make him a bigger contributor to Smackdown as the veteran face and it will be interesting to see Christian's next feud once he's done with Del Rio.
