Is it me or Cena can't cut a decent promo?

Sure when there's someone else with the mic helping him out (like the Rock or Punk) Cena is ok, but he can't cut a promo alone without any help. For a top guy you'd expect more.

I thought this Raw's promo started off great; mainly the way he dealt with the crowd. But after 100 grins, 100 times of stopping and listening to boos, I stopped feeling sorry and just wanted him to finish up. But of course, they're not really feuding over anything (Rock and Cena) despite what WWE is trying to tell people. So there hasn't been anything to say since Royal Rumble 13'. Cena said he wants revenge, Rock said just bring it. That whole feud was wrapped up in a 5 minute promo.

It's hard to cut promos about nothing, on a repeat basis.

I loathe Cena, and yet I fully admit that he has it in him to cut a good promo. Unfortunately, his promo skills have been on vacation since about 2006. He completely phones it in these days. Vince probably hands him a mic and says "go and there and say stuff." So Cena goes out there and we get hall of shame segments like his LOSER! promo, the Star Wars promo and that indescribably terrible go home promo for the Rumble where he talked about bodily fluids and Call of Duty.

Plain and simple, he doesn't try. And it shows.

why are people still doubting his promo skills? Cena can cut good promos and he has done in the past..or do you guys refuse to admit that he is not as bad as you say he is? His promos with Punk all through 2011 and 2012.. and the few he cut on The Rock (when he wasn't sucking the crowds dick).

The reason he got over in the first place was because of his mic skills.
His current character limits how good he could potentially be.

The problem with Cena is that his great promos are phenomenal and his bad promos are extremely cringeworthy. His latest promo on Monday night was fantastic I thought, incorporated the chants well etc, whereas his Royal Rumble go-home promo doesn't need to be brought up (ever again). Too often he falls into the "show up, smile, catchphrase, see ya later" style, but when he puts in the effort he's one of the top men on the mic of all time, I'd feel confident in saying.

Cena's better than the IWC's messiah Punk. You guys just like to gloss over the shit Punk gives in promos, but never miss a day to try and call out Rock and Cena. Just because Punk's a heel doesn't mean he isn't out there cutting the same old promos week after week. Come out insult city, insult fans, ask for respect, say your the best, smark insider joke, then leave. And I just saved you 20 mins. Guy's been shit on the mic since SES tbh. But hey, Punk can do no wrong. IWC doesn't except " Garbage" promos from anybody, but CM Punk.

I like Punk, but I agree with you, he does tend to cut the same style of promos. You are right. But the difference is, CM Punk does it to the best of his ability and works the crowd very well (remembering that this is what WWE has limited him to, he could do so much better, but that would be non-pg).

Now John Cena...Well again he is doing what WWE has limited him to say and do. But John Cena is bad all around. He comes across as very show-man like, in other words he plays to the crowd and just seems very fake and like he has not done anything in the past week and has just shown up and continued his same bullshit routine forever. And also so many times John Cena will literally come out and pretend to be the announcer for the next PPV, bigging it up and raising his voice, completely out of character. But again, this could be WWE telling him to promote, but he could do it better in my eyes.

Have you watched RAW lately?

That Q & A with the Hall of Famers was one of the most passionate main event promos that I've seen in quite some time, Cena's desperation that he sold through his mannerisms and his facial expressions was excellent and it turned some people who were once skeptical about the Cena-Roid program into believers that it could potentially generate a higher standard of quality.

Whenever The Roid OR Punk are involved, Cena is on his A-Game on the microphone for sure. Just look at the promo he did with Punk last year w/ BRET, excellent work yet again. He has had his fair share of awful, awful promos (STAR WARS, Skidmark 187), but I believe that at his peak he's better than pretty much everybody in the locker room on the mic bar a few guys (Punk is the only one that comes to mind at the moment).

I think it's time to show our future lord/savior/WWE Champion a little more respect.

Just like his workrate is going to magically go through the roof once he eventually turns heel.

I don't mind Cena's mic work, I have heard much worst, but when he starts raising his voice I always laugh. Anytime his face turns red, he starts shaking, and his veins pop out of his face, I can't take him serious anymore. And even when he's not going off, he's telling those lame jokes. Those really corny jokes that not even the kids laugh at.

However, the guy has a passion for the mic that can't be denied. Whether or not he's doing his right shtick, that's another story. I think everyone agrees that Thuganomics seemed natural to John, closer to what he is in real life. Superman Cena is just a job for him.

Cena is good, confident on mic, but that means jack shit because he's a flat out terrible promo man. He makes me sick.

Yeah he was brilliant in his younger days but I think the problem is he doesn't have much material to work with these days and he's always coming across cheesy because either he's throwing around jokes which aren't getting over or he's super serious and this only means he's going to start shouting into a microphone.

He's John Cena though so no ones going to tell him he needs to brush up on his skills.

Honestly can't remember the last time I watched one of his promos all the way through.

I've noticed he's been getting worse. I think he's feeling his act is stale and wants to change it up, but Vince won't let him.

He sucks. There will be people saying "how good he can be" but the fact is if he is getting boring chants 6 days before the biggest event of the year in his biggest match then ofcourse he is not very good. I personally never liked him in the ring or on the mic, he is decent at best.

And it doesnt help that he doesnt have any material to work with.

He hasn't put out a good promo in a while no, neither has The Rock though, seriously when was the last time The Rock was in the ring on his own and cut a good promo? Because from my memory quite a few of his recent ones have absolutely sucked, so Cena isn't the only big name who is stinking the place out atm.
