I personally think it was his progression from the chaingang era into the hustle, loyalty, respect era
he started becoming really successful then and his fanbase exploded.I personally found his thuglife era a lot more annoying as he tried to come off as this hard ass gangster with his cheesy freestyles about his opponents. But apparently everyone else would beg to differ. Why do you think everyone hates him so much? There are plenty of other superstars who have been really successful in the WWE just like Cena and he wins most of matches fair and square most of the time when hes not screwed out of a match or title.I know the hell awaits but I respect all viewpoints.

I liked Cena back in 2007. I quit watching in late 2008 and started back in late 2012. Cena cracked jokes back in '07 but could be serious when the time was right. His feuds with Shawn, Khali, and Umaga were entertaining because he treated them like serious challengers. Now Cena can't be serious to save his life and has to crack at least one "poopy" joke at every appearance. He sh!ts on every opponent in the ring (literally with Ziggler). If he could be serious for a moment (Lance Storm pun), his character would be a bit more tolerable.

When he went over Angle three times cleanly. I think that was when people started turning against him. I remember him still getting heavily cheered against Christian and Jericho and we all know what happened with him and HHH at WM 22.
