Re: When did everyone start hating Cena SO much

Because he was pushed as the top face in a time of the internet and smarks. If The Rock never left I'm guaranteeing you he would get the same hate Cena get's. If Hogan was around in the era as the top face he probably will be shot.

He was put over established talent from the Attitude Era and the Attitude Era fans took this as "shoving him down their throats." When, in fact that's how you push a new top guy. You have to have him beat the already established guys. That's why he beat Jericho, Angle, Edge, Triple H in such a short time, they were building him up as the next top face. It was to solidify him as the top guy in the company. Austin didn't have to do that. When Austin began top face, all the 80's star were over in WCW, so they have to establish other guys for him to beat to put him over.

That's why I started to hate Cena, when he was beating all the guys I was use too seeing. But Triple H was the final straw. When he beat Triple H I couldn't stand him anymore. He was winning all the time and the internet and Youtube just fueled by hate of his character. Luckily I realized why he's being pushed and why he wins all the time. He's the top face.

Some fans can't move on from Stone Cold Steve Austin. Their use to the beer-drinking, ass kicking redneck. Now, we have a clean-cut superstar who's about Hustle Loyalty and Respect. He's about do the right thing. He's completely opposite of Stone Cold.

You all may make fun of people with "IT'S STILL REAL TO ME DAMN IT!" for the young kids or marks or whatever, but you guys are even worse than them. You have this deep-seeded legitimate rage for Cena and his fans to the point where you let it affect your day to day life.

Grow up. Seriously.

Re: When did everyone start hating Cena SO much

i still like Cena, lost a little respect for him in the feud with The Rock tho. So much shooting and cheap tatics to try to stay on Rock's level, when in all honesty, he doesn't need to do that. He's talented enough to hold his own against Rock on the mic IMO.

Re: When did everyone start hating Cena SO much

I could actually tolerate Cena. Didn't hate, or support up until late last year when he buried Kane's return into the ground. Now I'm anti-Cena to the core lol! But in all seriousness, his domination over people like Kurt Angle, Jericho, and Shawn Michaels is when I believe it began to happen.

Completely DISAGREE.

You look at his change in character. He first started pandering to the fans, wearing the home town sports hero's jerseys, kissing up to them. He toned down his character and became bland. His matches became more predictable. Imagine if Stone Cold started to listen to authority, do you think fans would start turning on him? Or if D-X became more PC and less explicit. Or if Jericho toned down his personality to that of Lance Storm. They're all going to get turned on by a portion of the crowd.

That was why I stopped marking for him. I actually brought a "Chain Gang is Going To 'Mania" sign to the '05 Royal Rumble. It wasn't until around 2008 that I started to dislike him because it was always the same thing. Then it was when he'd continue to play up his "underdog" card and how he still hasn't had a WM moment that was the final straw for me. C'mon now. Really? If you're an underdog, then teams like the New York Yankees or Manchester United are underdogs.

Just like last year in his feud with The Rock. yes, The Rock is an icon and one of the GOATs ever but Cena's had more big wins in his career than the Rock has in his but yet Cena is the huge underdog? Give me a f'n break!

Re: When did everyone start hating Cena SO much

Probably around 2006. I remember my girlfriend (a casual fan) saying something like (sarcastically) "I wonder who's gonna win?" at a PPV we watched at a bar. So even THEN they were beginning to shove Cena down our throats.
So I'd say it was around the start of "The Marine" Cena. Or maybe even to pinpoint it, when he won the WWE Championship and WWE turned it into that bling-bling spinner atrocity.

Ok I had to add this direct quote from Cena's Wikipedia article due to its sheer hilarity.
Quote:
The negative reaction towards Cena intensified when facing Rob Van Dam at One Night Stand. Taking place in front of a crowd of mostly "old school" ECW fans at the Hammerstein Ballroom, Cena was met with raucous jeering and chants of "Fuck you, Cena", "You can't wrestle", and "Same old shit". When he began performing different moves into the match, the fans began chanting "You still suck". Cena lost the WWE Championship at One Night Stand, with Van Dam pinning Cena after interference from Edge.[76]

Around 2011.

Christian really did make the Cena hate more vocal, though.
