Re: When did everyone start hating Cena SO much

I didnt watch at the time, but isnt HHH criticized for burying young talent and going over them, when it wasnt needed (Carlito, Shelton, Sheamus)?

Why is it common sense, that Trips should have gone over Cena (still the younger talent at the time) at Wrestlemania?

Re: When did everyone start hating Cena SO much

I never really cared for him even when he was a rapper. He was just another guy on the roster to me. I did not like his rapper gimmick since he never "rapped", he just spoke, and even though his lines were cool sometimes, he just overall came across like some wannabe Vanilla Ice poser. But didn't hate Cena himself.

My hate started when he was drafted to Raw and WWE started shoving him down our throats as the "face of the company", booking him as superman and as a wrestler we are supposed to accept as someone in the same league as Hunter, HBK, Austin, Taker, Rock, etc. And over the years, as his character got goofier and goofier and staler and staler, my hate only grew.

Once considered a demotion, “getting sent down to NXT” is now considered the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a WWE performer.

Anybody remember the 100% pro Cena pop he got at Survivor Series 2003 - his official face turn.
There was no "crowd noise editing" involved in Cena's reactions when he was on SD. He was 99.9% over with the fans. There was always the occasional "Cena Sucks" signs or one out of thousands holding the thumbs down for him but he was visibly supported by fans.

His biggest pop in SD is when he opened Wrestlemania XX to me. In Madison Square Garden and crowd was heavily behind him.

Here he is in Chicago, about one year before Wrestlemania 22 and he introduces the spinner belt. Crowd is going crazy for him.

That would make sense, if half of the people in every arena leading into ONS weren't cheering for RVD.

I think the general dislike from the crowd itself came around late 2005, around the time he beat JBL for the title and introduced that horrible blingbelt. The boos aren't as noticeable as they've been since, but it was definitely the beginning of a relationship where millions hate a guy for sucking

Re: When did everyone start hating Cena SO much

I loved the crowd reaction to the Cena-Jericho match at SS 2005. EPIC chants!!

2006 was when Cena started getting some boos in his home state of Massachusetts. He gets a good pop when he comes out but when the match starts you could hear the boos and a big portion of males started to cheer for Edge. Edge got a decent pop when he covered Cena for the pin.

Re: When did everyone start hating Cena SO much

For me it was when you could literally predict how a Cena feud was going to happen. You know where the new heel that he'll be facing after a PPV comes out and attacks him on Raw. Then for the next couple of weeks they each beat on each other, either physically or through promos. Cena calls himself the underdog for some reason in at least one of those promos. Then the PPV comes along and the heel does 95% of the offense, Cena does his 5 or 6 move set and wins. If he doesn't win, it's usually due to outside interference. Next night on Raw, rinse and repeat.

They do twists to the above storyline but in the end it's all basically the same.

His matches became more predictable. Imagine if Stone Cold started to listen to authority, do you think fans would start turning on him? Or if D-X became more PC and less explicit. Or if Jericho toned down his personality to that of Lance Storm. They're all going to get turned on by a portion of the crowd.

That was why I stopped marking for him. I actually brought a "Chain Gang is Going To 'Mania" sign to the '05 Royal Rumble. It wasn't until around 2008 that I started to dislike him because it was always the same thing. Then it was when he'd continue to play up his "underdog" card and how he still hasn't had a WM moment that was the final straw for me. C'mon now. Really? If you're an underdog, then teams like the New York Yankees or Manchester United are underdogs.

Just like last year in his feud with The Rock. yes, The Rock is an icon and one of the GOATs ever but Cena's had more big wins in his career than the Rock has in his but yet Cena is the huge underdog? Give me a f'n break!

The first paragraph, you disagree with me. But you say if Stone Cold went corporate, or if DX went PC, they would be heel. That's what I'm saying, John Cena's character is the opposite of Stone Cold. Cena would be a heel in the Attitude Era, because he was clean-cut corporate kind of guy. Just like the heel's of the Attitude Era. If Austin was corporate like Cena, he would be booed.

My point was, Cena is the opposite of Austin, so that's why they don't like him.

So basically, you disagreed with me by agreeing with me.

You all may make fun of people with "IT'S STILL REAL TO ME DAMN IT!" for the young kids or marks or whatever, but you guys are even worse than them. You have this deep-seeded legitimate rage for Cena and his fans to the point where you let it affect your day to day life.

Grow up. Seriously.

Re: When did everyone start hating Cena SO much

The fact he's been forced down our throats for the last, I don't know - 8 years? I'm not one to constantly praise the Attitude Era but at least when we had guys like Austin, Rock, Triple H, Undertaker, Kane etc, they weren't shoved down our throats nearly as much as Cena is. It also helps that Austin wasn't even on top for as long as 8 years.
