here is my review of the springfield, mo. show:
match 1: zack ryder defeated corey graves
in about 10 minutes. graves looked good and worked good as a heel. the crowd LOVED ryder.
match 2: lord tensai defeated alex riley
...twice. vicky came out and said the match would be a dance-off. riley told tensai to go first and then attacked him from behind. tensai then told riley to face him...face to face. tensai worked a loser style and was more comedic and played to the crowd and everyone enjoyed it. he beat riley with a running senton. riley got on the mic, calling himself a "rare breed", and told the ref(charles robinson) that 'in the wwe rulebook, page 54, paragraph 6, line 5, it clearly states that if a competitor has a rock in their shoe the match has to be restarted'. tensai proceeded to clothesline riley and hit another running senton to the cheers of the crowd.
match 3: kaitlyn defeated tamina snuka
. this was about 10 minutes and boring, but I do have to say that all the young girls in the audience went nuts for kaitlyn.
match 4: new age outlaws defeated rhoades scholars
via a fameasser by billy gunn. a lot of heat for sandow and rhoades. obviously, the outlaws were way over.
intermission. of some note, as justin roberts was leaving the ring after announing the 15 minute intermission, a fan behind me yelled 'you suck justin roberts!' to which justin roberts gave a 'really?' look at the fan before shrugging his shoulders as if to say, 'okay.' everyone in my section had a laugh.
match 5: justin gabriel defeated david otunga
with an amazing 450 splash. otunga got crickets.
match 6: chris jericho defeated dolph ziggler
in a no dq match with the codebreaker. jericho hilariously got on the mic and called ziggler 'spaghetti head'. jericho was WAY over.
match 7: the miz and ryback defeated cm punk and antonio cesaro
. this was a good match with the obvious exception of punks injury. punk grabbed a jericho sign and tore it up as he entered the ring. I had my sign reading in huge font 447 (as this was punk's 447th day as wwe champion) the miz was way over as was ryback and punk got major heat. several 'cookie puss' chants were stopped by the shouts of 'BEST IN THE WORLD!' by me and some others. ryback pinned cesaro with the shellshock.
1. chris jericho
3. the miz
1. cm punk
2. rhoades scholars
3. dolph ziggler
overall, a great event. the new set really elevates their house shows and makes you feel like your money was very well spent.
cm punk injury
i sat front row, section c(my back would have been to the 'hard camera' had it been televised)
ryback did a spot where he put cesaro in a classic davey boy elongated vertical suplex. he probably had him up for a good twenty seconds before punk rushed into the ring with a double axe handle to break it up, but the miz stopped him with a kick to the gut and put punk up in an elongated vertical suplex of his own. this was an obvious premediated spot and looked really cool. ryback ended up holding cesaro up there was a good 45 seconds where miz only had punk up for maybe 10 or so and when they went to finish their suplexes in unison, ryback properly fell backward and put cesaro on his back in normal, safe fashion whereas the miz literally dropped punk straight down on his neck in a true, straight up brainbuster.
I came out of my seat and in disbelief "you dropped him on his neck! what the fuck?!"
punk immediately rolled to the floor and the wwe trainer(looking concerned) immediately ran over to him to check on him. punk was down on the floor for several minutes before slowly getting back up and making his way back up on the apron in his corner where he spent the next five minutes red-faced with his arms hanging and resting on the top rope and constantly shaking his right hand and stretching it open and closed.
up until that point in the match punk had been very involved both verbally and physically, but during those five minutes on the apron he frankly looked out of it. my opinion is that he may have suffered what is commonly called a 'stinger'.
to punk's credit, he did tag back in and eventually found himself in the ring with the miz. they ended up outside the ring and punk gave miz a shin kick to the ribs that could be heard in the parking lot followed by a few stiff forearms to the head before rolling miz back inside the ring.
punk probably worked 2-3 minutes after that and ryback ended the match with his finish on cesaro. punk quietly and slowly walked to the back immediately holding the back of his neck the entire way and never looked back or played to the crowd.
this may be of some note as well: my fiance and I braved the wind and rain to stand outside after the event where the wrestler's came out to leave. aside from punk's bus, the miz was the last to leave the arena(with two other guys who didn't appear to be wrestlers(though one could have possible been alex riley as he is a fairly 'normal' looking guy) walked out to his car(he had parked very high on the ramp and was within 10 feet of us) and he looked very down and out. honestly, I didn't put two and two together at the time but i'm sure he got an earful from punk and others. he looked like a scolded puppy as he put his gear bag in the back of his crossover. I said "hey miz, good match tonight." and he said "thank you. thanks a lot guys" but even his words were noticably depressed.
