I don't care for Cena retiring so much as I care for his reputation being destroyed ala the way of the Hulk. Interestingly enough Rock's promo from their feud about Cena being "phony" reflects what I actually think of the man.

I want him to go down as accurately as his career in the wwe has presented itself. The very worst face of all time. He should be the poster boy of what not to do as a face.

He's done everything in his power not to change or reinvent his character in damn near a decade. Though the Undertaker, HBK, Triple H, Austin...Essentially all of the goats of the business even Hogan himself has had to.

It offends me that on some level Cena believes he's better than his predecessors though there's a mountain of evidence that points to the contrary.

I'd be happy. Its gotten to the point where his idiotic and lame ass persona is so obnoxious and off putting that I don't want him to turn heel, I want him to get the hell of of my TV screen. He's contributed nothing of note to the industry or been at the forefront of major changes, and yet he's constantly pushed and presented as someone of incredible importance. Even the most moronic fan can figure out that he's a sham of a top guy. Countless guys have had their pushes sabotaged because they begin to encroach on his popularity, or in Zack Ryder's case, they're sacrificed needlessly to make Cena out to be that much better. What point did that serve? Ryder could have been a good solid midcard guy, but they killed him, and for what? Did Cena suddenly sell more tickets for his match with Kane, or more t-shirts? Extremely unlikely. He didn't change as a character or anything, it was literally just filler to tide him over until March, which totally crushed the momentum of a young up and comer. Was Ryder a threat to Cena in his popularity? No, they needed a goat for Cena.

In a list of top of the industry guys in the past 40 years, Cena has absolutely cemented the bottom for himself. He's been by far the worst top guy, so much so that he's actually a joke.

Until about 5 years ago the only reason I missed an episode of Raw was Football games (in highschool) or work, and it was recorded if one of those things happened. Since the big pushes of Roidtista and Cena I could probably count my hours of wwe watching on just a few people's hands. I check out a match or two online.. but I truly cannot remember the last time I sat through an entire episode of Raw. It's just to hard to stomach.

Maybe like after Hulk Hogan left, with John Cena leaving, we can finally see a change in WWE.
Roddy Piper would seem a far better comparison to Punk - as he was a heel/great talker. I get the comparisons to the other two but I feel like the Punk-Savage one is a little far fetched (he uses the elbow drop from the turnbuckle, not his whole gimmick) --- I mean if that's the logic used to be drawing the comparisons - pretty sure I've seen Ryder use a DDT so I guess Zack Ryder is the new Jake "The Snake" Roberts right? Bad comparisons aside, I'd be happy if Cena left as it would get WWE to try something different as others have stated also...

I haven't watched a full episode of Raw in years, but that's because I have work and classes all the time and I could just go on youtube and watch the most important stuff. Plus im in my 30's and pro wrestling isn't first and foremost in my life

I'd be annoyed.

Doesn't feel like they've done all the can with his character. It has a lot of potential to be something great and I think that will eventually happen.

They had so much potential with that character, but WWE botched him and his character so bad. He's lucky that he has a fanbase that support, otherwise he would be coming out to boos through out (not just men) or complete silence which is the worst thing a wrestler could come out to

I don't think Savage is that far-fetched as I think he was more complete in the art of wrestling than the other two stars, which I also think applies to Punk in his situation. Piper was a great talking heel but I think he was pretty limited in the ring and never reached the top.

It's of course a matter of opinion but I can see merits to both comparisons, although I prefer the one to Savage.

John Cena is like that guy who picks up a girl with a certain line, then uses that line over and over until he's a creepy old bastard. The original line was great, effective, and perfect for the moment, but that moment is gone.

What did they say in Tommy Boy? "You're either growing or you're dying. There ain't no third direction."

Up until 2007-08, Cena was growing as a performer and a company representative. What has he done since?

I'd eat my own hand due to the shock.

Nah, I'd be surprised for a while and then wonder how WWE would carry on without him.
