So that's a strange point to make on your part.

But it was obvious that Punk vs Rock would have happened. Why would Punk attack Rock then? Something was always going to happen when Punk attacked Rock, there was no way WWE would have ignored it and went with Rock and Cena II at the Royal rumble.
And the reason why Cena or Ryback didn't win the title is because they felt the reign was far more important than Cena winning the title or Ryback winning his first title. The whole idea behind this (IMO) is to keep Punk as champion so long and then Rock would be the one to end the title reign. If Ryback won the title in November then it would have taken away from the Punk/Rock feud. Punk is unbeaten as champion for over 400 days and it wouldn't have really added that much to the Rock feud if he was champion for just 2 months going into the match at the rumble.

Re: 500 days of Punk?
I expect Punk to win the Royal Rumble, but Rock to win it at EC - setting up the rematch at wrestlemania, possibly in a three way match with the rumble winner.
I really cannot see Vince giving the strap to Rock at the RR, because everyone will boo Cena out the building if he goes one on one with the great one - and wins at wrestlemania.
In fact, if Vince gives the strap to Cena ever again, it will backfire horribly, and Vince may be shrewd enough to see that. Have Cena do all the childish stuff which makes children love him, but always fall short against heels in the main event by cheating.
And with the end of the brand split effectively, except for house shows, I can honestly see Cena moving to smackdown by the end of 2013/beginning of 2014, when a new face becomes established.

Vince already knows what internet fans think of Cena. And guess what? He doesn't give a shit. Cena is still his top merch seller, and still the most marketable. He doesn't give a shit about what internet fans, the minority of fans, think of his poster boy as long as he makes him money.

100% this^
vince have known for a long time what a stale piece of crap the john cena character has become and how much most people hate him, but as long as he still moves merchandise he will be given all opportunities available for him to keep being the same stale piece of shit, poster boy and top person ever, until john cena or vince mcmahon dies

Re: 500 days of Punk?
I don't ever see Vince approving for such make believe fantasy. Impact would have had higher ratings by then.
