Re: CM Punk has surpassed Jericho...

I don't know if I'd agree YET. Big fan of both but I'd be interested to see where Punk goes after losing the title. He definitely has the potential to be a bigger legend one day, I just don't think so yet.

Look at the WM 28 program between the two. Jericho came back to put the star over like he always does.

Nothing wrong with that. Jericho's a great talent and is more of a versatile performer then Punk (great at being both a face and a heel) but Punk is the bigger star now.
They are at different stages in their career at 28 so your example carries no weight.

Snuka came back to put stars over in 1996. Are you telling me The Stalker is a bigger star than Snuka due to a worked wrestling match.

Stop being such a tool.

Anyway, they are about the same level. If anything Jericho is a step above due to the fact he was lucky enough to be in an era where he worked better stars.

That's if you're talking about sports, where wins, losses, and other stats are actually earned, not handed to you in to predetermimed outcomes.

The best actors are the ones that are the most popular and have the most talent (i.e. sell the most movies/get the best ratings and put on the best performances), not the ones that get the most air time and are scripted to have the highest total body count in said movies. Just like days as champ and win loss record doesn't mean shit when talking about who the best wrestler is since that part of it is scripted.

Re: CM Punk has surpassed Jericho...

It all depends on what you're basing it on and many are subjective.

Kayfabe - Punk
Status within company - Punk
Bigger name outside of wrestling - Jericho
Accomplishments - Jericho
Mic work - Jericho (much more consistent)
Memorable feuds - Jericho
In ring work - Jericho
Face overness - even
Heel overness - Jericho
Entertainment value - Jericho

That's how I'd personally rank them. There's really no right or wrong. Someone is definitely correct in saying that Punk right now is higher than Jericho has ever been since he's been WWE champ for 14 months and counting though one could counter that Jericho being the first Undisputed champ by beating Rock and Austin on the same night is a bigger accomplishment. Punk is unquestionably the #2 guy right now behind Cena and you could say that Jericho was never better than a #4 guy (behind Austin, Rock, and HHH). However Jericho's star still shun brightly in a much bigger and deeper roster when wrestling was at its hottest.

Jericho gets the edge for me when you talk about the overall package, someone you could drop down to put a midcard feud/title/wrestler over and then back up to main event level the next week, someone that excels both as a face or as a heel, someone that oozes charisma and puts on entertaining feuds, etc. You could argue that Punk has all of that but I don't think he has to the extent that Jericho has. The current feeling is that you could build a company around Punk while you don't around Jericho but who's to say that if they switched places that Jericho wouldn't be bigger now than Punk currently is?

It's all a matter of what you choose to argue. In the end, I just want to be entertained and these two are both great at it. Carry on with your arguing.

Re: CM Punk has surpassed Jericho...

Nope. What a lot of you don't get is that nobody really cares about wrestling. They have like 1/4 of the audience that they had when Jericho hit it big.

Being the number 2 face/jobber to the stars/transitional champion in 2000-2001 is better than being the number 1 guy in 2013.

More 5 star performances
More legendary promo's
Wasn't a transitional champion
Is actually a top star (Jericho was always a jobber to the stars sadly)
Legendary Indy career
More over than Jericho (MITB 11)
His most memorable moment is bigger than Jericho's( which was his debut)
Give or take on the mic both are GODS
Looked more credible jobbing to HHH than Jericho lol
Led stables

I'm talking in WWE world and in the real world ....anybody agree :talk
Errrr...You can't compare the two. Jericho was still a brand name even though he was in his prime at the same time as Rock and Austin. Who does punk have to try and outshine? Cena? Ounk is great, no doubt, but it's completely incorrect to say that one is better than the other. Especially training into account that they performed at two drastically different points in wrestling history.

And to say that Jericho only had one big moment is ridiculous.

Yep.

Saying Punk has surpassed Jericho just because he has been in a higher pecking order in the last 2 years, we might as well put him ahead of Hogan and Sting too, who are both now nothing but midcard acts in some indy promotion in disneyland.
