CM Punk inspires me in the same way that Nigel McGuinness breaks my heart. Punk is somebody who you'd think could never make it in the WWE and for years I'd hear about this guy who people loved but WWE wouldn't sign. Then one day he did make it but was sent to developmental, where again people told me he'd never made it. Then by the time he debuted on WWECW I'd heard so much about him that I became an instant fan. All these years later and he's become one of the top 2 guys in the company. He showed that through dedication, hard work and persistence, you can make it to the very top of your field.
Then you have Nigel McGuinness. Somebody did the exact same as Punk, only he has a much better look, one which is far more suited to the WWE. Then when he's on the brink of signing for the WWE, they withdraw his contract because they don't think his arm's healthy enough, even though years later it's never been re-injured. This guy gave up everything he had to pursue the dream, had everything that the WWE look for in a talent and was marketable because of his nationality yet at age 35 he's stuck working in a grocery store.
A little bit. He's worked his ass off and he's shoveled shit for quite a while and he's enjoying his payoff.
Honestly I find anyone who's actually willing to roll with the punches when chasing their dreams to be inspiring. Everyone nowadays wants things to just come to them. They sit around and wait for life to kick in the door instead of holding life by gun point and getting what they want out of it.
Mainly because Zigglers story is so much more inspirational, compared to Punks (multi time world champion).
Put simply, first push was with Charvo as Kerwin White - got derailed in 6 weeks due to Eddies death.
Next push was with the spirit squad. Enough said at the burial of them.
He then offered and went back to OVW to improve his skills.
Comes back, with one of the worst names in wrestling - Dolph Ziggler.
First push Ziggler gets derailed when Rey refused to Job to him at summerslam.
Got paired with Vickie, who really takes away the spotlight from wrestlers.
He works with Edge, where the feud was not over, when Edge retires due to injury - meaning back to square one, as WWE imports stars to smackdown. Gets buried in the roster changes.
He manages to get over through the same hard work and determination, selling skills and stealing the show with great matches.
Damn time he gets recognition, he worked his butt off, never complained, managed to come back and thrive even through tragedies and terrible gimmicks which would have destroyed just about any other wrestler.
And to Punks hard work, Dolph does raw and smackdown just about every week, house shows and double duty at a lot of PPV's last year.
Mods move if its in the wrong section, but does CM Punk inspire anybody else on these forums? I know its all a work, but CM Punk it somewhat real. He inpsires me to be a major asshole, and to not give a fuck. To drop pipebombs on my closest friends, or co workers, or bosses. I recently had a beef with one of my ex gfs boyfriends, this dude is twice as big as me, I saw this as basically a CM Punk vs. Ryback feud, and thought it was cool to have a guy twice as big as me wanting to kick my ass, but me wanting to be like Punk and go all in while playing chicken shit and smart at the same time.
I know I cant be the only one, does CM Punk inspire you one way or another? If I may quote Paul Heyman...If my son grows up to be like CM Punk, I will know I have done a good job.
