you do know that wrestling is predetermined right? this isnt boxing or mma... who cares about title reigns.

Does anyone remember JBLs AWFUL year long WWE Champion run? not really... because this is Pro Wrestling and its predetermined.

its not about how long the reign is! its about the entertainment value it brings!

As said before me, wins and losses do not make an impressive run (since it's all scripted), but doing good business does. Bruno was certainly selling out arenas and getting people interested otherwise he wouldn't have held the title for 7 years (even if they didn't work every day of the year). Punk is one of the many factors killing the business right now. So I'd say it's a N-O.

Default Re: Is Punk's run as champ more impressive than Bruno's?

I was not around during Bruno's time so can't comment on it but I don't think Punk's run is impressive by itself. The booking has been crap and inconsistent. For instance, the finish at the Elimination chamber PPV (Jericho's elimination sucked), the finish against Daniel Bryan, the finish against John Cena, the finish against Ryback (although I defended this decision first but now it seemed like a last minute and not very well thought out decision because look at Maddox now) and the finish against his recent TLC match against Ryback was just predictable and the match didn't need to happen. All these finishes just sucked. The storylines have also sucked IMO. I.e. his feuds against Kane, Bryan/AJ, Jericho and Ryback have all been stale IMO. His other feuds have been alright, not horrible or bad. Just alright. Then there is the inconsistent booking of his character. He defends his title against big name wrestlers during his face run and gets booked as a brave babyface but two weeks later in his heel run, he starts complaining about the triple threat match at Summerslam. Not to mention that he gets booked as a chicken shit heel against Ryback. I know wrestling is scripted and that we mustn't take things seriously but why should Punk be afraid of a 'newcomer' like Ryback? Look at the big names Punk has beaten and look at the opponents Ryback has beaten. I don't know, maybe I'm just reading too much on this. Then he stands up to the Rock and has a brawl against him...

how is he "killing the business?" considering he is one large half of one of the ONLY story line any WWE fans give a shit about. Haters gonna hate but trust me if anything he is one of the best things going for WWE right now.

Default Re: Is Punk's run as champ more impressive than Bruno's?

Bruno's title run is way more impressive, sure he may have defended it once a month in MSG, but the guy would wrestle all over the North eastern markets. The NWA wanted to make him their champion, but he refused. Remember this is a guy who sold out MSG more than 180 times, imagine that and then think about all the famous people that have preformed in MSG. Also when his reign came to an end, nobody could believe it, the whole arena was in silence and the new champion had to be rushed out so a riot doesn't break. Back then wrestlers where working nearly every day, these days they are more on the road.

For those who say Punk is killing the industry, I think Cena is the one who is preventing the industry from moving forward. This is why I want to see Ryback succeed, because it'll dethrone Cena. Cena maybe a money making machine, but he has yet to make wrestling relevant or popular again. I think there is a strong case to say that Cena has made millions of fans to stop watching. Right now I see Cena as Hogan and Punk as Austin. If we look at the Hogan/Austin beef we find that they kept Austin down and then fired him, but would go onto become the biggest commodity in wrestling. Punk has the talent to become one himself, but has been kept down for years before he got a real shot. WM27 should have been Cena vs Punk, but we got bullshit Cena vs Miz. Cena and Punk should have excelled to today's Rock vs Austin, but it hasn't.

Default Re: Is Punk's run as champ more impressive than Bruno's?

I agree to some extent when people say it is scripted so it makes the choice difficult.

But you have to be performing on a consistently high level in the ring on the mic and pulling your weight backstage and on house shows for Vince, HHH, Other big guys backstage and Shareholders to give you a long title reign. So whilst the outcomes are pre determined by Vinces pencil it is still an achievement to have a long title reign and quite clearly the people in charge seem to think CM Punk is doing a good job.

Im a massive fan of CM Punk but the problem with his title run is that he can only face who he is put in front of and he is unfortunate to be in a such a threadbare roster. Feuds with Cena, Bryan and Jericho will go someway to defining his title reign but it is great for CM Punk to have this opportunity with The Rock because this will be the most defining feud of his reign and this is why I hope he retains so that years down the line he can say he had some defining feuds rather than matches with Ziggler, The Miz and Del Rio.

I think some haters can't look past the fact he hasn't had a title run against some bigger name guys like HHH, The Undertaker, Stone Cold, Shawn Michaels, Brock Lesnar and seem to think because of this he is an inferior champion.

In regards to your question its hard because we were not around back then to understand the importance of the title reign. The importance of CM Punks title reign has only come around in the last few months. Either way its nice to say that CM Punk has held the title longer than any guy in the last 25 years.

Punk couldn't carry Bruno's jockstrap, and I am not even a fan of Bruno. Didn't like his style personally, but come on, man! The guy busted his butt to a far greater degree than modern wrestlers do.

What you consider the most entertaining (or "one of the best things going for WWE") is not necessarily what's doing the best business. Punk is "killing the business" because he's part of the terrible product that is constantly decreasing when it comes to profits. Decreasing ratings, buyrates, merch sales, show attendances and so on. And as champion for over a year, he deserves some of the blame placed on his shoulders.

I know Punk marks have a hard time accepting that, but it is what it is. I was in denial the very same way back in the 2011 summer when I actually found Punk entertaining and supported him.

You can't compare the two runs at all to many things have changed since the days Bruno held the title until today. They are however both very Impressive, the list Mike Zybyszko posted shows that Bruno wrestled a lot more week in week out then what Punk does, along with wrestling more then Punk his matches would have been a hell of a lot longer then the most of the 5-10 minute matches we get on raw every week, Now back in Bruno's day though they didn't have a live shows every week which gave Bruno the freedom to wrestle the same match night in and night out which from what I have read a lot of guys did back then, Punk on the other hand has to change things up wrestle different styles of match you cant do the same thing every week on live tv plus you have Hell in a Cell, TLC and Hardcore matches which they didn't have in Bruno's days, those types of match hurt the body a lot more then a stranded match.

Both are impressive Punk having the title for over 400 days in the era of live tv every week is amazing and so is Bruno holding the title for 7 years working the amount of dates he did.

This is something that just can't be measured. There's too many variables, plus, Wrestling has changed a whole damn lot; one of the main reasons why Bruno kept refusing the HOF until recently.

However we can say that it's been a great run for him definitely one of the best reigns in the past decade
