Even if you train 2-3 times per week it will generally take you about two years to reach blue belt level. While Gracie Academy says that Punk trains regularly with Rener I think he'd have to strain his schedule to be able to train once per week, so it's possible that Punk stays a white belt for several years.

In BJJ you generally don't advance as fast in the degrees as you do in arts like karate etc (the traditional Japanese arts usually have a tighter structure to that as well). Of course things differ even between styles within the same martial art, as well as with different teachers, but the original norm in BJJ is quite slow advancement (they also have fewer degrees than most traditional belt systems) and the Gracies are as original as you get.

To put it in some MMA context, Anderson Silva captured the Shooto title and fought in PRIDE while he was a blue belt.

So I don't think it's just a publicity stunt, although that aspect is of course always present since the sport and the gym of course gets more attention through it.

Edit: I was late and didn't see Thanos' comment. I didn't know Punk had said that.
I already responded to most of those points. Punk being on the road and not training does not counter my point in the slightest, it helps cement it. It only bolsters my point that he doesn't spend much time training.

Thanos' comment also doesn't matter. Rubbing more than a couple brain cells together, one would surmise that him being the celebrity pro wrestler and WWE champion CM Punk is far more likely to get people to challenge him than having a belt grade above white would. You'd have to be incredibly gullable to believe that he hides his actual status for that silly reason. Wearing a white belt doesn't hide his face or change his name. Nor does it turn away the camera recording and taking pictures of his training sessions.

Punk's belt level is white, that's why he wears white. The evidence is in the picture. Everyone else in the picture are wearing their properly colored belts too.

I'm not even expressing my opinion. It's a viewable fact.

Re: CM Punk training in Jiu Jitsu with Gracie and Ed "Al Bundy" O'Neill

Someone is overrating CM Punk or Bryan, it must be THANOS!.

This arguments are stupid, people here come to make fun of CM Punk because he is not quite the stereotype of a badass, then THANOS Wrestlingfan and all punk marks start a war with punk haters, and the truth is that none here will really known how strong is Punk, i mean marks bring to the table that punk trains with (insert name), but the truth is that is not in a constant basis, and we dont know to what degree, the argument of why the white belt is hilarious THANOS, but again is not an issue of Punk being strong enough or not, but CM Punk hasnt proved anything, and this shit is just speculation of his marks, who are the same way as everyone here who says who can kick punk ass, none know who you are or how strong you are and in the end is just an internet wmarks vs wannabes war.

Summary, marks can brag about Punk when you post a video of punk legit fighting, if not didnt happen and haters, come on anyone can say that he is a 1.90 90kg badass fighter.

Daniel Bryan was going to win at Wrestlemania but then he took a brogue kick to the face
