Direct Comparison: 1998 to 2012-13

So I recently downloaded the entire RAW and PPV set for 1998. I assume we can all agree this is viewed as a pretty good year and certainly a lynch pin in the Attitude Era itself. I am going to go further in depth on this but for my preface: So far I have noticed everyone on here tends to complain about repetitive matches being shown each week, generally using the same key players occasionally mixed around in tag teams. I too have been irked by this and feel like it must be some new phenomenon in the booking since it certainly could not sustain itself in terms of ratings and viewership. However the first thing I have noticed about 1998's RAWs is that after 5 episodes i think I have seen maybe 4 combinations of matches. Every single week was a NAO vs Chainsaw Charlie and Cactus Jack match, then a goldust vader match, followed by something involving Owen Hart and generally HHH. I am wondering what you guys think about this year in general, as well as specifically.

1998 was overrated as fuck and is in my opinion one of the worst years if not the worst in the AE. Sure it had its big legendary moments and the rise of the rock but still talent wise and entertainment wise it was worse then 2011/early 2012

Re: Direct Comparison: 1998 to 2012-13

1998 - just fuckin' awesome. Not the best year in matches, but damn was it entertaining. Maybe my favorite year ever. Austin/McMahon was fresh and great every week. You had Rock and Triple H at the top of the midcard. DX was hilarious all the time. Foley was awesome, either as Dude Love or Mankind. Taker and Kane were both really badass. Not everything was gold but most of it was pretty entertaining and I would kill for a year like that again.

As for comparison to 2012, there isn't one. As I said in the other thread, last year blows 1995 away but 1998 was way better than 2012.

My favorite year in wrestling history, nothing will ever be like watching Goldberg & Austin in their primes. Greatest year in pro wrestling history,

Spot on with this. There's nothing like following THREE promotions at their creative peak at the same time.

Seriously? You're going to compare one of the greatest years of wrestling to one of the worst years outside of 2007

the worst parts of raw are always bad no matter what year. the high points during austin ae were better than any other ever and that's why it was the best era.

Re: Direct Comparison: 1998 to 2012-13

wwf was very strong from january till summerslam 1998 continuing a trend from an awesome 1997, later in the year the show really started to have too much vince russo, the ppvs focused more on angles than actual in-ring wrestling which would be a feature of 1999 wwf

just for example rock bottom ppv in december 1998, how wrestling observer subscribers saw that show.....can't remember the last time 93% of people gave a wwe ppv a thumbs down

WWF ROCK BOTTOM POLL RESULTS
Thumbs up 01.2%
Thumbs down 92.8%
In the middle 06.0%

Re: Direct Comparison: 1998 to 2012-13

The greatest year in pro-wrestling
The peak of pro-wrestling
WWE's biggest star at his peak
Pro-wrestling's greatest rivalry happened that year

And you are comparing it to 2012?
