"2012 was more entertaining than 1998"

Hilarious.

Re: Direct Comparison: 1998 to 2012-13

You cannot compare 1998 to 2012-13 AT ALL.

In 1998 they were given much more leniency, more free reign over what they could do, there was competition from other organisations and the general idea of kayfabe was still very strong to most people. Nowadays with nearly everyone and their grandmother searching the internet for news on that guy from the arse end of nowhere who had an injury at a house show, and reading up on what storylines are coming round in six months, it's pretty hard for people to suspend disbelief. Hell, most are more worried about what rating a show gets rather than watch the fucking show themselves.

People are forever saying asinine things like 'nobody from today would get over in 1998'. That is complete and utter horseshit. Couple that with the fact everybody is assigned their position with no allowance to test new and fresh ideas, the contrived camera angles, the Hollywood storylines, the social media, the streaming websites, the glass ceilings, if you're not impressing people from the very start then you won't get very far. CM Punk is an exception.

"Yes, I can hear you Clem Fandango!"

WCW seemed to be all out of ideas and had reached their creative peak sometime in '97 with Crow Sting. ECW had some good wrestlers, but they had peaked in '96.

2012 actually started off decent, but then the quality really nosedived into complete and utter shit once Brock Lesnar jobbed to Cena at Extreme Rules, and the rest of 2012 after that was as bad, if not worse than 1995 was asides from the odd highlight like Raw 1000 and the TLC PPV.

You can't judge the whole of 1998 based on the first 5 shows. The middle/end of the year was much, much, much better than most of what we got last year.

This. I was a huge mark during this period. Honestly more into WCW at the time but still kept track of WWF. This was the year I started watching more hardcore wrestling as well. So many good memories from that period.

This works! I've done it myself and you lose the will to even watch the current product. I did 1999 for 2011 and 2000 for 2012.

However, for it to work you need to discipline yourself 1) You have to watch every Monday at 8pm EST. Do not watch on Tuesday, Monday at 5pm EST. You have to watch it the time current Raw is on. 2) Don't miss a week and don't skip ahead. If you do three back to back, you now have nothing for 3 weeks. Actually, if you are thinking of doing it, do it now. It's only mid January and you can watch like 3 weeks worth just to catch up.

Granted, it may not be possible every week but you should strive for it this way or it may not work.

You can also watch it with friends that used to be WWE fans. Towards the beginning we would watch 1999 and then go to the wwe.com website and read what is happening on current Raw and just laugh because it was so bad.

With this, you will be cured and yes I am treating watching today's current product like a disease cause if you are over the age of 21, it is.

The fact someone thinks 1998 is worse than what we are getting is either A) Nuts or B) Under 21 years old because they are gearing right for that person.

In regards to WWE, we are not in the PG Era. We are in the Watered Down Era!

"Triple H fans will say that everything is true if it has to do with making him look good. And if it's a bad rumor, it's not true because "it's from the dirtsheets"."

Triple H fans are the worst!

Unfortunately I only started watching when I was eight in 2000 so I missed out on 1998. However, I've obviously seen all the clips and it seemed like a hell of a year. Comparing it to 2012 is pointless and frankly depressing!

I have just started torrenting all the Raws from 1998 after reading this comment - fantastic idea! Ah, the joys of illegal downloading!

this is getting boring now..... ticketmaster should waiver all the admin cost for this massive fuck up... 5 hours sat and nothing to show

Re: Direct Comparison: 1998 to 2012-13

If 2012 is better than 1998, then why do a lot of us sit around wishing that the stars from 1998 would show up and make the show interesting?

Watching 97 and I agree. I'm at the start of April and god that's all I've seen every week.

For a stage it was alot of Lefon and Fernus(sp) vs Owen and Bulldog.
