Re: Direct Comparison: 1998 to 2012-13
I didn't start watching til early January 2000 (so Rock pulled me in, basically), but I've see enough highlights and dled enough videos to acknowledge 1998 was the best yr ever. I'm not the biggest Austin fan, but all of Austin's moments that made ppl flip out were in 1998, between Austin vs. McMahon, his REALISTIC promos, car stunts. I don't mean to belittle the Attitude Era, but I swear 80 percent of the "unpredictability" was car stunts, and therefore believe the current era needs more of them. Also, DX was hilarious and different. Every faction makes it seem like anything can happen, they can beat up anybody and take over the show, one voice is worth the strength of five guys; but nothing compared to the jokey Triple H teaming up with the New Age Outlaws and the DX Army segments. I saw their very first promo with the Outlaws, and I swear the first time Road Dogg added his bit it showed that the members were perfect for each other, whereas most groups are one guy running the show.
Between Austin's prime and DX's shenanigans, 1998 was much better than today. I think today's product is pretty good, but 1998 was the climax. Maybe 1999, too, I don't know.
