Cena is neither an icon, nor a legend and the Rock/Cena really interaction wasn't that special, and fizzled out quickly. Cena may be a big deal, and THE guy - but he's mainly where he is, due to the company's refusal to allow anyone to surpass him. Case in point is Punk, who was getting the entire crowd behind him, and bigger reactions than Cena at the peak of his face run, and could have usurped him, as top face, IF the company had got behind him and went all out in terms of marketing, like they did Cena... except they wouldn't, 'cos they don't want anyone other than Cena in the number one spot.
Cena is the icon of HIS generation. Whether you consider him an icon the level of Hogan/Austin/Rock is up to yourself but it was a clash of generations, 2 icons of different generations meeting for the first time. Whether you think Cena has been force fed or not, that doesn't take away from the significance of what it was. Orton was outpopping Cena and had everybody behind him at the peak of his face run and the company didn't run with him either. All that is irrelevant. Cena is the icon of this generation. Not Orton, not Punk. That's why John Cena vs. The Rock happens at Wrestlemania and CM Punk vs. The Rock happens at Royal Rumble. They're both huge matches but one is clearly bigger than the other.

Look Cena is a big deal, but his character is so shit that a lot of people has go away heat for him. For me he makes everything less enjoyable when it should be the opposite., but he doesn't care about getting the whole crowd to like him like a real baby face should. So why should people take him and his force fed legacy seriously?

Where Cena/Rock seemed to be more about not tarnishing the other guy too much, this looks to be a feud with the gloves off. The intensity is much higher than Cena/Rock, but it obviously lacks the enormity due to the drop in star power.
Rock/Stone Cold had a great fued when both were faces. HBK/Undertaker had a great fued when both were faces. It can be done but it has to be done right. However, when have you ever heard a face booed so loudly like Cena was going into Wrestlemania, even in his hometown? That is what I believe ruined that fued.

If there is another match between the two, I hope they just focus on Cena's loss to Rock and his willingness to do whatever it takes to get the win. Build the match like they did WM 17 with Rock/Stone Cold.
