Re: Rock/Cena (28/3 Raw) or Rock/Punk (7/1 Raw),Which promo better?

Well of course the Cena-Rock fued had a more "epic vibe" to it, more star power, etc. But so did Andre vs Hogan at WM III. They were the big names, they were the draws, and made that literally the biggest Wrestlemania to date in terms of attendance. But among us wrestling fans, what match is the most talked about from that event? What match was the show-stealer that was praised for many years thereafter as the GOAT? Sure as hell wasn't Hogan-Andre.

For newbs, I am of course referring to Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat for intercontinental title.

Quality over quantity.

apposite comparison . i like it

Thankful for CM Punk making me watching WWE again.
6/27/11 is same important as 6/23/96

A legend never dies: June 18, 1962 - June 13, 2009

Not removing until:
[] Shelton Benjamin makes a comeback
[] Charlie Haas makes a comeback
[] Kenny Dykstra makes a comeback
[] Raw makes again a 6.5 or even a higher rating
[] John Morrison becomes WWE champion
[] CM Punk wins Royal Rumble
[] CM Punk and Daniel Bryan main eventing Wrestlemania in an iron man match (and so creating epic stuff as e.g. misawa and kawada did in their matches)
[] WWE pays tribute to Mitsuharu Misawa

Punk holding the title for 434 days was epic. it was the greatest reign in the history of wrestling (but not the way the reign ended):
4-3-4
4-3-4
4-3-4

Re: Rock/Cena (28/3 Raw) or Rock/Punk (7/1 Raw),Which promo better?

Rock/Punk, by far. Rock/Cena was a BIGGER deal, no doubt about it, just because it was Rock first coming back and Cena is the big dog of this era but really, the promo and entire feud was underwhelming. There was no real substance to the feud and a lot of it was, quite honestly, dumb. As others have said they really tried to push that as a huge match, and it was, but they did try and force it when there wasn't much heat, tension, or emotion there. Rock never really bought his A-game and I remember some of Cena's talking points during that whole feud were hypocritical yet were never called on.

Punk/Rock was the best promo I've seen in the company since, I think there was something with Mick Foley months back. Cookie puss was pretty lame but I can actually feel some heat between the two guys... imagine that. And they actually have me looking forward to RAW to see where they take this.

Rock/Punk is a great moment too and a great promo there's no doubt about it. It can't touch the HOLY FUCKING SHIT DATS JAWN SHEENA N DA RAWK IN A WWE RING 2GETHA AHHHH moment of the former though.
Unless of course you're the type of fan who never saw John Cena as the "big deal" that the machine markets him as, and see Punk as a much bigger deal instead. But I can totally understand that concept.

I personally preferred Rock and CM Punks promo. Although it didn't have the same level of star-power.

I really liked Punk/Rock better. Cena wasn't putting anything over when he was talking to Cena. Cena reacted as if nothing happened, but Punk actually made it look like the argument was going both ways.

Re: Rock/Cena (28/3 Raw) or Rock/Punk (7/1 Raw),Which promo better?

It's only been a week, but I already like the build to Rock/Punk more than Rock/Cena once 2012 hit and they were on the official Road to Wrestlemania last year, simply because it's a lot more serious, it's more about selling a big Title match instead of trying to one-up each other on the mic because of legit heat, and I just think the match itself will be better with Cena not involved.

And OP has a weird way of writing dates.

How can you watch WWE and NOT see Cena as a big deal? He's THE guy and has been for quite some time now. That's like saying Hogan was never a huge deal or Austin or Rock himself because you harbour a personal bias against them and think whoever you mark for means more in the grand scheme of things. It's flat out wrong. Regardless of your personal feelings about either of them, John Cena and The Rock in the same ring together for the first time ever is a pretty big thing. Yeah, it may not have done anything for you personally but to say that Cena isn't a big deal is just stupid.

Yeah, but they made it out to be bigger than it was, and making out that Cena is some sort of icon, and he's not. The Hogan and the Rock interaction WAS special - particularly the first time they appeared in the same ring, because they were both icons of a generation. Cena is neither an icon, nor a legend and the Rock/Cena really interaction wasn't that special, and fizzled out quickly. Cena may be a big deal, and THE guy - but he's mainly where he is, due to the company's refusal to allow anyone to surpass him. Case in point is Punk, who was getting the entire crowd behind him, and bigger reactions than Cena at the peak of his face run, and could have usurped him, as top face, IF the company had got behind him and went all out in terms of marketing, like they did Cena... except they wouldn't, 'cos they don't want anyone other than Cena in the number one spot.

Actually, that is the correct way of writing dates. What's weird is writing the date month first... weird and totally stupid.
