I'm a massive Cesaro fan.

But whether or not he gets over with the bulk of the WWE Universe remains to be seen.

Dude has the tools. Charisma, in ring skills, mic skills (could use more work), etc. If he isn't World champion by 2015, the WWE fucking sucks.
The "tools" don't matter outside of the IWC. He has a generic look, has a super thick accent and has an anti-american gimmick. No, he's not marketable on a large scale.

That's more WWE than him. He's a guy that will have his in ring skills do the talking. If he really wanted to, Cesaro can get over.

Re: Antonio Cesaro is going to be "the best"

I don't know if he'll be THE best, just because he's not too big and there are other guys in the running, guys we haven't even seen yet. But he'll absolutely be up there. Just his smug face, his delivery, he's GOT IT. I know it doesn't look amazing right now, but he's just arrived and he's already delivering better promos than 75% of the roster.

He doesn't have choppy English, he has an accent, which is a good thing because it distinguishes him from other wrestlers and presents WWE as global.

His mic skills are outstanding for a sports-entertainment rookie. I'm not saying a WRESTLING rookie, a WWE/sports-entertainment rookie where your purpose in life is to elicit a crowd reaction purely with the microphone. He reminds me of Kurt Angle: his early promos weren't amazing, but they had great delivery and purpose and demonstrated obvious potential. The anti-American foreigner has been done, I'm pretty sure the Eurosnob has been done before, but that doesn't matter because there's no one else playing that role right now. Dolph Ziggler and John Cena aren't original, heck every good gimmick has been done before, but they're unique RIGHT NOW, and they're awesome at what they do. He's playing a great character, and he'll only get better. He's got a great look too.

WWE favorites: Punk, Sheamus, Lesnar, Ambrose, Rollins, Reigns,
Del Rio, Orton, Bryan, Ziggler, Wyatt, Usos, Cesaro, Mysterio, Kane
DGPW: Doi, Yoshino, Tozawa, Yamato, Dragon Kid, BxB Hulk, Ricochet, Super Shisa
NJPW: Okada, Nakamura, Styles ROH: Briscoes, Fish and O'Reilly, Young Bucks
All-Time: Rock, Punk, Lesnar, Angle

Again, this.

I kinda actually liked him waving the American flag like that. The problem I have with Cesaro is that I still don't have a clue what the hell his gimmick is. What is it? Is it some sort of "America sucks! Everyone's fat gimmick!" or is it "I'm the strongest man in this company" Combination of both?

I don't know, I don't care. Cesaro just doesn't have the IT factor. I was impressed with that springboard uppercut. That shit looked sick! But what the fans with the "critical eye" seem to not understand is that, that sort of thing only gets you so far.

I'm not high on Cesaro tbh. He comes out, he puts on a match, does some cool looking move, I don't care and more importantly than me, the audience doesn't seem to care. I just don't see Cesaro as a long term investment. Like I said, he just doesn't have that IT factor.

Re: Antonio Cesaro is going to be "the best"

I'd be curious to know how many people in this thread saying that Claudio doesn't have 'it' would also turn around and say that someone like Ryback does...

Anyway, I see an extremely bright future ahead of Cesaro. WHCs for sure, and I can see potential for even a WWE title reign or two in there. I can envision him being a top heel someday.

I hate when people say "oh that person has a generic look". What would you rather him look like? Would him being roided up make him less "generic"? I see nothing generic about Cesaro. His accent makes him different.

Re: Antonio Cesaro is going to be "the best"

He's got it all except for the fact that he's a heel in today's WWE, which means he will be booked like shit on a whim because they don't know what to do with John Cena, Sheamus, or Randy Orton that night.

Press Play to wake up.

That doesn't make sense. What you're basically saying is that Cesaro doesn't want to get over at the moment. Please. And when you're dealing with the crowds of today, you're going to need to know how to talk. Not too many become successful with having their work in the ring do the talking for them.

Ryback gets a reaction, although I wouldn't say he has the "IT" factor.

Uh, yeah, tools matter to all wrestling fans, the difference is which tools. If he's a great talker and has a great look, all wrestlers will appreciate it. Okay, I don't even know what the issue is with a generic look. Everyone has a generic look, Austin, Rock, Cena, Triple H. They look different after you see them for a while. He's got a great look: he looks handsome, he looks muscular. That's it. There is no other aspect to a wrestler's LOOK unless a guy is supposed to look like a scary monster of some kind. Rock was handsome and muscular, just like Austin and Hogan. What distanced them wasn't that they looked different, it was their microphone skills. If somebody wants to shave their head and grow a goatee, or shave their head and not grow a goatee, or do any of the previous things but constantly be angry or constantly have a smug smile, they can pull it off. Cesaro can grow a goatee if you want him too. (Btw, I don't mean to be biting in my criticism, I can only put it bluntly, though. He's got the look.)

He doesn't have a super-thick accent, he has an ACCENT. His English is perfectly clear. And if his anti-American gimmick weren't marketable, why would WWE put the gimmick and a belt on him? Bret Hart had an anti-American gimmick, so did Sgt. Slaughter and Ivan Koloff. And its just his present gimmick, its not like he'll have to be doing it a yr from now, its just the easiest gimmick to give a foreigner and get them noticed.
