Default Putting the Intercontinental or US title on a WWE title contender?

I think it would be a good way to add some prestige to a title if the WWE title contender was the US or Intercontinental champion.

For example CM Punk (WWE Champion) Vs John Cena (US Champion) for the WWE title. US title not on the line.

Like when Shawn Michaels held the European title and face Bret Hart for the WWE title.

It would give the US title more prestige and make the title mean more once he dropped the title as long as they then booked the title after that correctly. Throwing the title around like a hot potato does nothing for the championship and makes it more and more irrelevant. I have liked Cessaros and Rhodes long title reigns but they have been rare occurrences.

I'd be fine with it. Or do it the other way around where a midcard champ gets WWE/WHC title shot at a PPV.

WWE has made the mid card titles meaningless over the past few years but I feel this idea would help bring some prestige back to them.

How important is the I.C./U.S. title when the champion's main focus is to win the world title ?

Why do people bring up things like this? Shawn Michaels was the European Champion and went up against Bret Hart in NINETEEN NINETY SEVEN. It's now 2013. The midcard championships barely mean a thing anymore.

Besides, as someone else mentioned, to me the midcard championship would seem even LESS important if the champion went after the world title.
